Unit Mission Statement
The University Registrar’s Office exists to support the education of students at William & Mary, to protect the integrity of William & Mary degree, to uphold and assure consistent application of the academic rules and regulations, as set forth by the faculty and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Essential responsibilities are to maintain accurate records, to allow access to student records in compliance with the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), and to support the academic program of the University by gathering, maintaining and distributing information. Inherent in the effectiveness of this office is a commitment to objectivity and equity, with the understanding that there is an obligation to communicate information accurately and effectively.

Position Summary
This position provides a wide variety of enrollment services, analysis, and student records processing in a caring, timely, and accurate manner. It responds to complex inquiries regarding office, federal, state, and university policy and procedures. This position interfaces with students, parents, faculty, staff, outside agencies and the general public, as well as providing data processing and student record maintenance service. This part-time position includes some front-desk work.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Effectively interact/communicate with a diverse population in an effort to promote exceptional customer service.
  • Must be able to work in a detail-oriented, multi-tasking front office environment.
  • Strong organizational/time management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, make independent decisions utilizing complex guidelines.
  • Strong data and records management skills.
  • Demonstrate general office skills and proficiency with PC systems and software to include word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with higher education preferred.

Conditions of Employment
  • Overtime and weekend work are rare and tend to be linked with major university initiatives such as commencement, registration and orientation.

  • This is a part time (hourly) position limited to an average of 29/hrs per week. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve month period beginning May 1 each year.

  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
