This position is eligible for a hybrid of remote and on-campus working. The work schedule will be based around core working hours in Colorado Mountain Time.

The Bursar Office has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Customer Service Specialist position.

Jobs in this career family provide the accounting and financial activities for the University. Functions include general accounting, budget, financial analysis and audit, tax and reporting, accounts payable and receivables, government cost reimbursement, contract administration, cashiering, cash management/ banking, investments, treasury and travel audit.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

Job Summary:

The Bursar's Office of CU Denver | Anschutz supports the academic and administrative mission of the institution and is responsible for ensuring the effective and accurate administration of all student accounts receivable and student payments, to include billing, collections, 3rd party sponsor billing, accounting of tuition, student fees, and various auxiliary charges. The Bursar's office is also responsible for processing departmental cash receipts and oversight of all federal and institutional loans, including related reporting and collection activities.

Examples of Work Performed:

The position requires extensive customer service experience, preferably in higher education and is responsible for, but limited to the following:

  • Analyzes cash receipts and disbursement forms for proper coding, approvals, and completeness prior to entering CU-SIS Cashiering module. Explain tuition and fee charges and calculations, rules, regulations, and campus policies. Resolve problems related to student bills. Explain campus petty cash reimbursement policies, general student information and campus rules and regulations. Reviews student accounts and prepare documents.
  • Research problems and provides guidance to Cashier Manager for resolution. Analyze processing errors presented by bursar accounting team to track and resolve errors identified in the general ledger.
  • Opens and closes cashiering office, including but not limited to, performing open/close functions required in CU-SIS, verifying cash vault and cashier drawer amounts, preparing daily bank deposits, and generating daily cashiering reports for reconciliation. Determine completeness and accuracy of daily business documentation when compared to dollars transmitted to PeopleSoft.
  • Enforce established and adhere to University cash handling safety precautions, protect identities by handling credit card and social security numbers according to guidelines. This position must understand the accounting methods used in CU-SIS, and PeopleSoft Financial system to monitor data passing through all the student and accounting systems.
  • Gather daily transaction and deposit documentation, to include scanning and indexing of daily cashier batch documentation into OnBase. Determines that all student, corporate and department payments in our CU-SIS Cashiering module balance out to our total funds sent to our bank account. Research the previous day transactions in order to find the error.
  • Onboard, train and support student employees (work studies) as needed including developing schedules, ensuring time is entered correctly, posting job openings and providing evaluations each term.
  • Front line customer service contact for the Bursar Office
    • Assist with the bursar@ucdenver.edu email account
    • Assist with the facstaff@ucdenver.edu email account
    • Assist with answering the main bursar’s office phone line 303.315.1800
  • Interporate, enforce, and process all applications for the university tuition assistance benefit (TAB) program for Denver and AMC campuses every semester. Application of university policy APS #5024.
  • Exercise discretion in processing bursar charge petition requests received to dispute various fees on the student account. Serve as back up for the customer service manager in this process as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Bursar to support Bursar's Office needs

Salary and Benefits:

  • The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $44,325 – $56,381
  • The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
  • The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
  • This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • At least one (1) year of customer service and cash handling experience
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in higher education preferably in the office of the bursar or student account area.
  • Knowledge of the CU System, business practices, dates and deadlines, best business practices.
  • PeopleSoft Finance and/or Campus Solution (CU-SIS) system experience
  • Experience developing onboarding materials for all new employees
