Job description: DATA Engineer / ETL Specialist

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Role Overview:

  • Maintain current ETL processes for data ingestion, processing, storage, and transfer with the current enterprise data platform Provide strategic assessment and Develop ETL strategies to ingest data from a myriad of sources and formats and implement the same.

Responsibilities:

  • Design tools, workflows, and strategies for streamlined ETL and publishing from statistical databases.
  • Automate the production of data tables and products and develop strategies for streamlining the production and release of statistical data
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and documentation of new processes that leverage the tools and approaches listed above (database storage, data virtualization, application of standards) to automate time-consuming manual, and often paper-based, publishing processes.
  • Create and implement a data model to facilitate quality measurement and reporting efforts.
  • ETL Script development.
  • Create and maintain various reporting products in Socrata and Tableau
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and documentation of new processes and approaches for database storage, data virtualization, application of standards, and automating time-consuming and convoluted processing and ETL activities.
  • Recommend, develop, implement, and document optimal processes for streamlining data intake,including diagnostic evaluation of incoming data to identify anomalous data patterns, data outliers, and other significant attributes of the data that should be brought to analysts’ attention
  • Recommend implement and document automated data validation, quality checks, and quality reports
  • for data updates being deployed in support of public-facing websites and publication processes.
  • Troubleshoot various problems that arise in day-to-day work and fix the issues.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent relevant experience required
  • Public trust clearance is preferred
  • US citizen

Minimum of 3-4 years of experience working in enterprise data management, specifically:

  • Preparing analytical files and databases
  • Data governance/quality best practices
  • ETL methods and software
  • Technical and mathematical programming
  • AWS data solution development

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $50,000.00 per year

Compensation package:

  • 1099 contract

Experience level:

  • 4 years

Schedule:

  • 4 hour shift

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Washington, DC: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

  • ETL: 3 years (Preferred)
  • SQL: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Data warehouse: 3 years (Preferred)
