The Data Solutions Department within the Information Research (IR) Division works with internal clients to provide data management and decision support tools to optimize the efficiency and efficacy of research and development at AbbVie.
The Data Scientist I role interfaces directly with Discovery and Development Sciences scientists to facilitate data capture, data visualization and analytics. This position will work with Discovery and Development scientists in various therapeutic areas to understand their workflows and problems and work to build out solutions. Key responsibilities include implementing data capture systems and developing technology solutions ranging from web-based applications to Spotfire dashboards. These solutions will be developed either independently, or by working with a developer, to provide agile, impactful, and cost-effective solutions for the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communicate – ability to communicate with scientists to understand workflows from Discovery in vivo and Development Sciences scientists to understand existing work and data flows
- Collaborative Design – understand the client’s needs, propose solutions, and work independently, or with a team of developers, to seek appropriate solutions
- Integrate – understand the value in capturing data properly, and integrating data sets
- Build – through your own efforts and by working with developers, create custom solutions that capture or visualize data in an efficient and supportable manner
- Organize – Effectively organize and present project objectives and progress; deliver projects in a timely manner
- Adaptability – ability to work on multiple, sometimes very different, projects at one time
- Breadth – contribute independently to a wide variety of projects
Qualifications:
- BS or equivalent experience in life sciences with 4 years of experience OR MS or equivalent experience in life sciences with 2 years of experience.
- Background in Life Sciences, Biology or Pharma industry strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of drug discovery and development process desired; previous wet lab experience required
- Experience working with data from: in vivo animal studies, Biomarkers (bioanalysis, genomics, histopathology), chemistry, analytical/process/formulation sciences strongly preferred
- Proficient with SQL and two or more data analysis programming languages (i.e. python, R, Java, etc.) or tools (Pipeline Pilot, Knime, etc.)
- Experience with visual analytics tools preferred (i.e. Spotfire, Qlik, Tableau, etc.)
- Dedicated team player who can interface with stakeholders from a variety of internal IT disciplines (DBAs, architects, developers, etc.) and external customers (discovery & development scientists, therapeutic area scientists, pathologists, development sciences colleagues, etc.)
- Ability to work independently

- Ability to multi-task and work within timelines

- An analytical mind with outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
