Position Summary:

The Dean of the College of Agriculture, Environmental and Human Sciences provides leadership and administration for the Cooperative Research & Extension programs, serves as chief academic officer for the College, manages its resources, and plays a leadership role in development and fundraising, along with recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students. This is a senior level position that strives to build interdisciplinary collaborations across campus and enhance partnerships with local, national, and international communities. The Dean must be a strong advocate for the university on campus and with external stakeholders.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Actively oversee academic and instructional activities by providing ongoing insight and direction to meet or exceed university strategic goals and objectives.
  • Foster development and implementation of academic programs and their curricula.
  • Recommend faculty appointments, promotion, tenure, and termination. Accurately evaluate faculty performance and promote faculty development.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and development of programs, courses, grant proposals, and projects; serve as Director of Cooperative Research.
  • Actively engage in fundraising, and recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated and thorough understanding of land-grant systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the complexity of effort needed to work with and foster relations with under-represented audiences.
  • Must have excellent organizational, communication, and social skills
  • Self-starter who completes projects and works to timely meet university strategic objectives.
  • Experience with managing substantial budgets and providing relevant financial oversight.
  • Ability to identify what is needed for the university to progress and implement movement in the appropriate strategic direction.

Education and Experience

  • Earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Possess a distinguished record of accomplishments.
  • Three years of higher education leadership experience as a department chair or director is required.
