This position is for the school year only. This position is subject to the NATA contract. This position is located at the Armory Campus of Drury High School.Job Goal: To assist the Principal in administering and supervising the total school program, directly or through the proper delegation of authority, within the frameworks of the General Laws of the Commonwealth, the Regulations of the State Department of Education, the policies and rules of the North Adams Public Schools, and the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreements negotiated with all employee groups.Supervision: Reports to the Building Principal. Supervises all subordinate personnel as determined by the Building Principal.Performance Responsibilities: 1.Acts for the Principal in his/her absence, when so directed.2. Assists the Principal in selecting, supervising and evaluating the professional staff.3. Serves as resource person and master teacher for the purpose of instruction.4. Assists in the orientation of new staff.5.
Shares with the Principal the responsibility for the protection, health and welfare of students.6. Makes recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies and rules affecting the student's life in the school.7. Resolves all discipline problems in a fair and just manner and maintains records of any disciplinary action taken.8. Provides leadership in curriculum coordination, evaluation and development.9.
Possesses a working knowledge of the Middle School curriculum.10. Assists with facilitation of curriculum department meetings.11. Assumes responsibility in conjunction with the Principal for administering all student matters relating to discipline, infraction of rules and regulations.12. Maintains positive parental contact.13.
Oversees the use of the Student Support Center and staffing.14. Oversees the in-school suspension room and staffing.15. Seeks out alternative suspension programs.16. Holds parent intake meetings for suspended students.17.
Oversees detention issues.18. Supervises and administers all student transportation including busing for extracurricular activities and field trips.20. Attends and /or schedules meetings related to, but not limited to, the following: a. Student academic, behavioral, or attendance issuesb.
Curriculum issuesc. Other school issues21. Provides for the safety of all personnel and students in the school.22. Facilitates and directs school Safety Committee.23.
Attends district Safety Committee meetings.24. Works with the School Resource Officer to maintain safety and helps the Officer building relationships with parents and students.25. Uses the School Resource Officer as a resource.26. Assumes responsibility for the physical condition of the building and grounds and recommends ways for their better utilization in serving the educational needs of the students.27.
Assists in the selection, distribution, storage, and inventory of all texts and educational materials.28. Helps the Principal formulate and administer the budget in all areas.29. Works with the custodial staff in keeping the school in an optimum state of cleanliness and repair.30. Helps to supervise and direct all non-professional staff.31.
Helps the Principal with the evaluation of the non-professional staff and for making recommendations for retention, promotion and transfer of non-professional staff.32. Assumes responsibility of keeping up to date professionally by reading widely, attending professional meetings, visiting other school systems, taking courses at accredited colleges or universities and any other means that will contribute to professional growth.33. Creates an advisory and service relationship with other administrators and staff members.34. Helps interpret the school programs to the community.35.
Works with community and government agencies on problems relating to drug abuse and truancy from school.36. Has general supervisory responsibility for student activities, athletic events, program of student orientation and similar activities.37. Facilitates meetings, sets times and dates and prepares agendas.38. Works such additional time, beyond the regular school day, as required and performs any duties related thereto.39.
