The founding Dean of the School of Nursing will serve as the senior academic officer for the BSN undergraduate nursing program. Set strategic direction, manage faculty and staff, and recruit students. Administer the finances of the School, secure resources, and maintain the academic integrity of the program consistent with SACSCOC and CCNE standards. This position is also eligible for the rank of associate or full professor.

Essential Job Duties

1. Lead the School of Nursing programming, assessment, and accreditation efforts;
2. Seek and secure external funding to support scholarly activity, and coordinate fundraisers, and resource development;
3. Recruit and maintain a high-quality faculty and support staff, with a goal of improving diversity;
4. Recruit undergraduate students;
5. Develop, implement, and evaluate program goals, objectives, policies, and services that are consistent with the mission/philosophy and strategic plan; coordinate program reviews, and discuss program outcomes in collaboration with appropriate faculty;
6. Coordinate curriculum development and assessment; develop new academic programs and teaching modalities, including online and distance options;
7. Cultivate a collegial, collaborative, diverse environment with faculty, students, staff, administrators, and the community;
8. Facilitate resolution of conflicts of all types, including assisting in the resolution of students’ concerns and grievances; adjudicates academic suspensions and other student performance issues;
9. In collaboration with Marketing & Communication develop marketing plans for the Nursing program to include advertisement, design, placement, and traffic;
10. Serve as media contact representing the School at the local, state, and national levels;
11. Provide leadership, evaluate, and supervise direct reports in performing duties as charged;
12. Participate in community outreach; form and sustains lasting professional partnerships with relevant constituents (community representatives and professional stakeholders); facilitate cooperative working relationships with the clinical placement facilities and establish innovative partnerships.

Teaching responsibilities are split between the pre-licensure and RN to BSN tracks. Potential teaching opportunities may include but are not restricted to health assessment, foundations of nursing, nursing care of adults, psychiatric/mental health, and contemporary issues in nursing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Documented experience and excellence in teaching;
Peer-reviewed publications in translational, human subjects research;
Evidence of successful advising at the undergraduate level;
Membership and involvement in professional organizations;
Familiarity with the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education.
Ability to balance the needs of students with rigorous academic standards;
Highly developed communication skills – both written and oral;
Strong leadership and fiscal management skills;
Strong problem-solving and crisis management skills;
Experience with emerging technologies, including online instruction;
Experience with the process of accreditation;
Knowledge of the certification and licensure process;
Strong commitment to high-quality education in a liberal arts environment.

Education and Experience

The educational requirement for this position is: Doctorate degree in Nursing or closely related field; Education may not be substituted for required experience.

This position requires: Five years of full-time nursing experience, or its equivalent, within the last eight years, with at least three years of experience in academic and nursing administration. Experience may not be substituted for education requirements.

License/Certification

Must hold a current Alabama Registered Nurse license in good standing or the ability to acquire, if hired.

Pay: $96,069.00 - $131,601.00 per year
