Deli Assistant Manager - Basics Market (Farmington Location)
Job description
Assist with the coordination and execution of Prepared Foods department operations and work. Prepares, stocks, cuts, weighs and wraps department products. Assists the Deli manager in leading the Prepared Foods department and staff including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Supports the Deli Manager and Sous Chef to ensure smooth operation of the Prepared Foods Team.
- Works with Deli Manager to train Team Members in a manner that builds and sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover.
- Opens and closes department according to established procedures.
- Assists with food preparation and production.
- Give and receives feedback in a constructive manner. Responds to feedback to improve performance.
- Ensures a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and Team Members always. Seeks opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience.
- Partners with department management to maintain excellent department conditions. Ensures all areas of department are stocked, rotated, faced, and adhere to merchandising standards and category schematics.
- Adheres to work and food safety policies set forth by the company and all local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Merchandises and maintains Prepared Foods case and stations.
- Builds displays and arranges department products to make attractive presentations, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items.
- Plans for weekly ads, events and holidays using tools and reports. Works with store management to understand and respond to current store trends.
- Represents company values. Works cooperatively and positively with fellow team members, customers and vendors, spiriting a respectful workplace where everyone is welcome.
- Stocks, rotates and faces products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
- Maintains the organization, rotation and cleanliness of back stock areas.
- Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers and credits.
- Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
- Demonstrates ability to multi-task and manage own time. Shifts tasks as priorities and circumstances change based on needs and conditions of department.
- Observes all company rules and policies. Understands and complies with specific department or location guidelines, tasks and responsibilities.
- May participate in other activities such as inventories, scheduling and performance reviews.
- Tools and Equipment Used (not all inclusive): This position may be required to use the following tools and equipment: baler, hand truck, POS, industrial kitchen equipment (i.e., blast chiller, grill, knives/blades, oven, grills, scales, etc.), basic housekeeping / janitorial and standard office equipment.
- Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience required.
- Assists with other departments and at other Basics locations as needed.
Facilities, Sanitation, Work Safety and Food Safety:
- Adheres to work and food safety policies set forth by the company and regulatory agencies.
- Performs janitorial tasks in compliance with sanitation standards established by store policy and state and local health departments. Contributes to store cleanliness.
- Maintains equipment, informs store/department management of any problems.
- Reports all safety concerns and work-related injuries to management.
- Frequent handwashing is required.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- 2 years industry-related experience.
- Knowledge of retail grocery Prepared Foods, Deli or food production department required.
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Ability to distinguish and articulate differences or similarities in intensity and quality of flavors or aromas, and able to identify flavors or aromas through taste and smell.
- Ability to use hands to chop, whisk, slice, stir, juice and demonstrate cooking techniques.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Food Handlers Certification or must acquire within 30 days of hire.
