Deputy Building Official/Inspector

Starting Salary - $85,000

The Deputy Building Official/Inspector is responsible for the technical work of conducting building inspections and plan reviews for compliance with existing codes, ordinances, statutes, and enforcing other municipal codes and ordinances and assisting the Building Official with the administration of the Community Development department. Work is performed under the general direction of the Building Official.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Conduct site visits to make construction inspections; record and document all inspections; provide information and assistance to the public, contractors, and other employees; research documents; keep superiors appraised of all building inspection activities; attends meeting, seminars, etc.; assists and directs Code Enforcement Officer under the supervision of the Building Official; as well as other duties to be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of principles and practices of building construction; knowledge of various codes; ability to interpret technical designs and blueprints; ability to enforce codes, ordinances and regulations; ability to work with the general public; skill to use standard equipment and testing devices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. A minimum combined experience of ten (10) years as a building inspector or construction superintendent.

LICENSES: Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License; certification by the State of Florida, Department of Professional Regulation as a Building Inspector, or other State of Florida discipline’s such as plumbing, Mechanical, Residential, Electrical, and Commercial Electrical Inspector.
