Astrobotic is seeking a Program Manager to manage the design, development, integration and manufacture of new spacecraft and their payloads, including budget, schedule, and risk management. The role will support a broad range of technical programs and sub-systems spanning structures, thermodynamics, sensors, electronics, software, and systems engineering. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to lead projects with significant impact on the future of space and technology on the moon as Mission Director.
Astrobotic’s Landers & Spacecraft division is a collaborative working environment where each member of the team has a high degree of freedom, responsibility, and expectations. We are building solutions to challenging technical problems with the goal of making space more accessible to the world. The company has received more than 50 NASA and commercial technology contracts in autonomous precision landing, mobile robotics, GPS-denied navigation and mapping, multi-rover exploration and planning, lunar cave exploration, planetary drones, and high-performance computing.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Creating and coordinating work breakdown structures, schedules, budgets and resources for concurrent projects with staggered deliverables and reporting cycles
  • Integrating project schedules to ensure milestones and delivery requirements are met and all stakeholders are kept informed
  • Collaborating with managers and leads to ensure schedule, cost, and technical deliverables are met and up to date throughout
  • Creating technical statements of work and contracts for vendors, manufacturers, and subcontractors, and evaluating the performance of those contracts
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of technical progress reports, documentation, and presentations
  • Conducting analysis to determine alternative courses of action or recovery on slipped schedules and or deadlines.
  • Monitoring schedule progress, including identifying critical activities and reviewing forecasts and progress achieved to date. Analyze critical path and constraints to determine effect of changes to schedule and recommend work-around.
  • Establishment and management of key technical and supplier relationships
  • Planning, preparation, delivery, and closeout of program milestone reviews
  • Negotiation of program requirements and objectives with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensuring program compliance with licensing and regulatory requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. in Engineering or related technical field plus 5 years of relevant space mission experience (at least 2 years in a leadership role). Relevant advanced degree will be considered in lieu of equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading spaceflight projects consisting of 10+ employees, including the development and management of project budgets, schedules, risks, and technical performance objectives
  • Demonstrated experience operating in an AS9100 or ISO9000 environment
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn on the fly, work autonomously, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated experience balancing resources across multiple projects, as well as tracking scope, schedule, and budget
  • Demonstrated experience working with engineering teams and ability to quickly establish close working relationships across teams
  • Ability to work without supervision to lead the development of program plans and schedules for multiple programs concurrently
  • Ability to motivate and influence others, build effective interpersonal relationships, and be able to foster and contribute to a positive and productive team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including sound judgement about when, how, what, and with whom to communicate

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience leading life cycle development of human-rated or mission critical spaceflight systems or subsystems
  • Program management experience in support of government customers
  • Demonstrated direct, hands-on experience with space system integration and testing, including cleanroom operations
  • Demonstrated experience working in an agile environment, using organizational tools such as Confluence and Jira
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORs, ReqView or JAMA
  • Working within an agile development framework
  • Advanced MS Project skills (Resource loading/tracking, progress tracking, variance analysis, critical path review and analysis), experience using Confluence/JIRA
  • Eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance is preferred but not required.

Salary Range: $115,000- $140,000
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and the candidates professional experience. Base salary is just one component of Astrobotic’s competitive total rewards strategy.
