Job description

The Design Engineer position is responsible for mechanical system and component design utilizing CAD, FEA, and other tools to support engineering decisions. This position will require providing accurate, timely, cost effective engineering solutions that work well within the limits of our manufacturing equipment and assembly capabilities, and meet customer requirements. This position’s roles will span from initial concept brainstorming and feasibility studies through design, build, testing, and validation of components and systems. This position will be working with a cross functional team to achieve products and results quickly and effectively.


Job Responsibilities

  • System and component design and development with good CAD practices
  • Strong understanding of physics and ability to quantitatively analyze forces and moments
  • Self drive and ability to work effectively independently or within a team
  • Solve manufacturing and assembly problems utilizing problem solving techniques and methodologies
    • Work collaboratively with other engineers, production personnel, purchasing personnel, and customers to create optimal solutions to support the business
    • Demonstrate a desire to support engineering’s customers (production, sales, purchasing teams, etc.)
    • Determine effectiveness of the engineering solutions, understanding un-intended consequences to manufacturing processes, tooling, and option capability.
    • Coordinate effective date of engineering solution
    • Initiate changes to drawings, solids models, and bills of material
    • Provide engineering solutions that maximize financial profitability
    • Base knowledge of FMVSS/CMVSS/GVWR regulations
  • Bachelor's?degree?in the Engineering?field (BSME preferred)
  • Understand metal fabrication, forming, tolerances, and capabilities within our facilities and within our industry
  • Desire to learn new things
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understand vehicle design, testing, and certification process
  • Experience using Solid Works and AutoCad Design Software
  • ANSI-Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerance
  • Proficiency in PC based word processing and spreadsheets
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements
