Overview:
Michigan Hillel’s Development Manager is a key member of our Advancement team responsible for overseeing several aspects of the organization’s day-to-day fundraising activities and serving as the lead to several online fundraisers and student partnership campaigns. With strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask, this role is a large contributor to the team’s achievement of our 2.5M+ annual organizational goal. Ideal candidates are early-career professionals with 2+ years development experience who would describe themselves as self-starters, creative, social, and bold. These qualities will lend themselves to taking full advantage of the role’s opportunities for learning new fundraising skills and implementing new fundraising ideas, and then putting those strategies into action through direct leadership of fundraising initiatives and donor solicitations. We envision those who are successful in this role of learning and leadership will be well positioned for a bright future within the philanthropy industry in the future.
This position reports to the Director of Advancement. Knowledge of the Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor Jewish communities is preferred, but not required. While it is intended to be based in Ann Arbor, the organization is open to a flexible, remote work model. This position’s salary range is $45,000 - $55,000, dependent upon experience.
Position Responsibilities:
Fundraising Appeal Leadership - Vision success for online appeals and student-led fundraising initiatives by:
- Building fundraising strategies that increase donors and revenue by tracking and analyzing data
- Leading online appeals from the creative strategy phase, to timeline management, complete through implementation for our Big10 Challenge, Alumni Celebration Month, Giving Tuesday, and Hillel Global Giving Week initiatives
- Serving as staff advisor to Phonathon student leadership with regard to hiring and training, caller performance, and overall shift performance
- Serving as staff advisor to Senior Legacy Campaign student leadership with regard to leadership structure, fundraising strategy, and class gift
- Serving as staff advisor for student-led Thankathons, held twice-annually to recognize our generous supporters
- Ensuring best practices and quality resources are always maintained related to representation of the organization, training, prospect segmentation, solicitation scripts, caller and donor incentives, etc.
Donor Management - Lead front-line fundraising by:
- Identifying, stewarding, and directly soliciting assigned portfolio of donors and prospects - largely parents, alums, and community members - through in person meetings, phone and email communications
- Conducting individual and foundation prospect research to devise strategies that will engage non-donors, renew lapsed donors, and retain and increase active donors
- Coordinating stewardship incentives for Hillel appeals and giving programs/societies
- Supporting gift management by overseeing third-party gift platforms related to DAF and matching gifts, as well as a supportive role for gift entry and acknowledgement letters
General Support and Other Expectations - Expand skills and experience in greater areas of a development department by:
- Supervising development team intern and/or work-study employees in partnership Advancement team members
- Developing technological proficiency (training provided) in Little Green Light database, Constant Contact email marketing, VanillaSoft sales software, and GetThru texting platform
- Leading mass communication of Hillel’s Monthly Parent & Alumni E-Newsletters
- Leading inventory and fulfillment of Hillel store items
- Attending Hillel special programs on evenings and weekends as necessary
- Traveling as necessary for donor meetings, cultivation events, and conferences
Job will include additional responsibilities at the direction of the Executive Director and Director of Advancement.
