Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Duty

About the Position: We are looking to add a Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic to our Fleet Maintenance Team. This position is based at our fleet garage in Vestal, you will also be required to make road calls for service as needed in support of the business. Employees must have a keen sense of surroundings and follow safety regulations.

Compensation: Based on role and commensurate with experience.

Job Requirements:

  • Perform general maintenance on a fleet of heavy commercial trucks and equipment
  • Diagnose defects and monitor performance of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and diesel systems
  • Perform advanced level maintenance & repair on engine, emission, transmission, brake, hydraulic, electrical, engine chassis, vehicle body control, heating and air conditioning, suspension and steering and valve systems
  • Prepare and record all necessary service documentation
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns & possible repairs
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Participate as a team-player in a cohesive and productive work environment
  • Ability to occasionally work overtime, nights & weekends
  • Other duties as assigned

Ideal Candidate:

  • High school graduate & graduate from an accredited trade school
  • 3+ years of experience with heavy truck & equipment mechanics
  • Knowledge of parts of complex machinery and tools used to fix them
  • Valid and active commercial driver’s license (CDL), or willing to obtain a CDL
  • Good driving record
  • Familiarity with computer & mobile phone technology
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Ability to multitask in stressful situations
  • Good communication skills
