Under general direction, design, implement, and/or deploys tools for statistical analysis, text analysis, data mining, modeling and simulation, information design, network analysis, and data visualization. Performs professional work in training and mentoring students; collaborates with university-wide disciplines and library units toward shared goals; and the research, design, development, implementation and maintenance of data science projects. Work typically involves researching a complex problem and providing knowledge about the tools, methods, and theoretical issues and innovative digital methods to humanistic research questions using data science tools. May work with or lead others on larger projects.

Train and or mentor ASU students, faculty, and staff who are interested in learning more about data science apply emerging technologies and tools relevant to supporting digital scholarship in the humanities. Work on and or develop research projects pertaining to statistics, machine learning, text analysis, data analysis, automated classification, and modeling. Provide individual and or group consultations with students, faculty and staff on data science projects. Design, develop, implement, test, and document approaches to data driven research problems.

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Education, or related field AND two (2) years previous software support experience; OR, Any combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

• Evidence of a Master’s Degree in humanities, social sciences, or a related discipline
• Demonstrated knowledge on current trends in software development tools, techniques, statistical computing, and programming languages used in humanities research and data science.
• A demonstration of past work via a GitHub repository.
• Experience with Open Source software.
• Demonstrated knowledge of information organization and retrieval technologies used to organize, store, and access digital content.
• Demonstrates knowledge with emerging data-driven and computational methods for research (such as quantitative and algorithmic methods, text mining, image analysis, network analysis, dataset curation, humanities mapping, critical big data studies).
• Evidence of effective communication skills; able to make presentations to faculty, staff, and leadership.

• Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%).
• Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
• Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
• Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/ technology peripherals.
