About the role


This is an opportunity to join the Accounting Advice & Research department within Swiss Re's Group Reporting and bring additional experiences and skills to our team! This position is responsible for providing accounting advice on both IFRS and US GAAP for Group purposes, and advice on US STAT for local purposes. Focusing on insurance transactions in the America's region and a more global role in the Life & Health arena. The role will also lead the America's risk transfer process.


The Group will move to IFRS in 2024 from US GAAP, so the focus for the future will be on IFRS, concurrent with US GAAP until the Group has transitioned. US STAT for local purposes will be ongoing. In addition, support on accounting policy and implementation topics will be required.


The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual that will strengthen our team. You will have the excellent opportunity to actively impact and support the organization in the move to IFRS, provide accounting advice on transactions, and establish policy. The role is an accounting advice expert role. We are looking for applicants that have a great interest in complex accounting policies, and a strong understanding of the insurance and reinsurance business and products.


The Accounting Advice Director will also collaborate with Reinsurance, Corporate Solutions and IptiQ helping to ensure consistent application of Group Policy in transactions.


About the team


The Accounting Advice Research team is part of Group Reporting located in Zurich and New York. We are responsible for US GAAP, STAT and IFRS accounting transaction advice and opinions, producing accounting policy and newly published accounting guidance implementation. We support at the Group level covering all accounting topics.


About You


  • Minimum 10 -15 years of insurance experience in an Accounting/Finance function
  • Accomplished experience in US STAT regulation and GAAP accounting principles along with relevant experience in the insurance and reinsurance space with L&H, P&C and the like
  • CPA or equivalent in insurance background, or in public accounting if hold additional insurance experience
  • Working knowledge of IFRS a plus
  • Keen interest in the interpretation and application of accounting standards, and ability to translate that into solid accounting conclusions and advice to deal teams
  • Demonstrated ability to render principles-based concepts into guidelines and opinions.
  • Knowledge of economic frameworks is a plus
  • Highly motivated with an ability to work in a diverse and collaborative environment
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to sustain high level of work output and meet very tight deadlines
  • Excellent communicator
  • Experience in dealing with key stakeholders and in working on significant, high-value projects
  • Independent thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • Sharp sense of pragmatism
  • Fluent in English both written and verbal

For New York City/Armonk the estimated base salary range for this position is $176,000 to $282,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
