Job Purpose: Lead A&R efforts for specialty projects; conduct quality control for all projects; oversee activities related to catalog releases; develop and execute innovative content creation strategies by using on-site studio / listening room.
What You’ll Do:
  • Lead A&R efforts for specialty projects, including catalog, greatest hits, essential packages, and soundtracks
  • Identify potential new talent using every resource available including online research of artist/band websites and social networking sites.
  • Oversee trafficking and delivery of all A&R projects
  • Market and secure recordings of the SMP catalogue.
  • Maintain a close relationship with all SMP songwriters.
  • Oversee weekly A&R music schedule (ongoing projects status)
  • Oversee weekly ISD & Competitive Releases reports
  • Oversee catalog releases (includes competitive titles research, sales history and projections, A&R, scheduling)
  • Conduct research to evaluate new music and improve the A&R team’s understanding of new music metrics.
  • Collect, prepare, and explore a variety of music data, and construct new methods to draw insights from this data
  • Develop and implement new analytical processes and/or technologies for the A&R team
  • Regularly meet with A&R staff to provide status updates.
  • Act as liaison between potential artists and SMP.
  • Leverage existing network of resources including songwriters, producers, managers, booking agents, attorneys, concert promoters, trade and consumer press, and other music business personnel.
  • Research and pitch masters for sync licensing through Sony TV & Film division
  • Develop and execute innovative strategies on how to utilize studio / listening room to create and produce both revenue-generating content, as well as content that will support artist development plans for newly signed artists
  • Coordinate/produce all A&R special events/showcases (show configuration, production, venues, musicians, rehearsals, budgets, etc.)
Who You Are:
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Experience working in an A&R or creative director capacity
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate song placement activity.
  • Experience in a role that required the ability to make large data sets useful and meaningful by presenting key information in a variety of ways.
  • Experience working with publishers, songwriters and label leads with proven ability to create and maintain relationships is a plus.
  • Must be passionate about new music and have a strong knowledge of various genres of music and ability to separate/identify the commercially viable
  • An understanding of current tastes and trends of the market
  • Prior experience interacting with recording artists; an understanding of artist lifestyle.
  • Experience in a position that required exceptional time management skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task; ability to work independently but be a team player.
  • Available to attend evening showcases (routinely) as well as ability to travel
  • Working knowledge of digital music space and social media
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Coachable

Work Requirements:
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • 7.5-hour business workday but variations in work volume frequently require extended working hours for evening and late-night events.
