What we do

Kentik is seeking a Director of Business Intelligence who will lead our BI team, reporting directly to the Head of Business Operations. As Kentik continues to prepare for its next round of growth, Data will remain at the forefront of our decision making. In this role, you will own the semantic layer for Looker, in-house tools, and our future BI tool stack on top of our big data warehouse, making sure the data is represented to analysts in an accurate and consistent manner. You will be the subject matter expert in business intelligence tools, consulting with teams on best practices and own related administration tasks. The ideal candidate understands complex data models, has strong communication skills and deep experience leading a business intelligence team.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain the semantic layer by synthesizing data from multiple sources representing different stages of our sales funnel & opportunity life-cycle - CRM, ERP, LMS, Customer Service, etc.
  • Collect requirements from cross-department stakeholders to design and implement sophisticated data models in SQL and LookML for end user consumption inside Looker
  • Ensure upstream product model changes integrate well with our data model
  • Focus on enabling data consumption — providing clean and reliable data objects to end-users, modeling data in a way that empowers them to answer their own questions
  • Develop and maintain appropriate system documentation (data dictionary, etc.)
  • Monitor and maintain the health and structure of our data store, data source connectors and ETL pipeline in collaboration with Kentik's Operations team
  • Manage and implement new strategies, goals, and metrics

What you'll bring

Studies have shown that some candidates tend to apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. We encourage you to apply if you meet most of the criteria - even if you don't match all of the qualifications, your skills and experience could be valuable in this role!

  • 7+ years of experience in building and architecting data solutions
  • 3+ years of experience developing ETL/ELT workflows, preferably working with Google BigQuery
  • Expert knowledge of SQL and LookML
  • Hands-on experience with data modeling and reporting in data visualization tools such as Looker, or a similar tool
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tools like Fivetran, dbt, etc.
  • Experience with business systems such as Salesforce, Netsuite, and Pendo preferred
  • Knowledge of data warehouse principles and methodologies
  • Skills to manage complex BI projects and teams, and work effectively across internal functional areas in ambiguous situations
  • Enthusiastic, clear communication skills
  • Bias toward action
  • A preference for seeking and solving the hardest, most meaningful problems
  • Persistently advocating for opinions and beliefs, without being abrasive
  • Supporting group consensus, even when in the minority
  • Creativity
