The mission of the Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.

Immediate Opening, Director of Operations

The Director of Operations (DOO) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the office, ensuring that it runs efficiently and that all members of the team have what they need to succeed (such as resources, recordkeeping, and ensuring a supportive work environment). In addition, the DOO ensures the smooth running of all programs and services. The DOO reports to the Executive Director and may work closely with the Board of Directors to implement strategic plans. The DOO will work closely with the development team to ensure fundraising goals are met and assist in the daily operations that may change from day-to-day depending on the events and activities supporting the Cancer Support Community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization
  • Works closely with the Executive Director/Board of Directors to implement strategic plans
  • Works closely with the development team to ensure fundraising goals are met
  • Oversees the financial operations of the organization
  • Ensures all programs and services are running smoothly
  • Serves as the liaison between the Executive Director and the staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Responsibilities:

-Implement strategic plans for the organization

-Oversee all aspects of the organization's operations

-Coordinate the work and resources of all departments within the organization

-Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations

-Oversee the organization's financial performance and take corrective action as necessary

-Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, and community leaders

-Complete daily tasks as needed to ensure the organization’s success

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate for the position of Director of Operations (DOO) will have a minimum of five years’ experience in a leadership role.

Additionally, the candidate will have a proven track record in organizational management and strategic planning. The candidate should also possess excellent financial acumen and be able to effectively manage budgets and fundraising activities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential, as the DOO will be responsible for interacting with a variety of stakeholders including board members, staff, volunteers, and donors.

As the world’s largest employer of psychosocial oncology mental health professionals in the United States, the organization offers a network of personalized services and education for all people affected by cancer. In July 2009, the wellness community and Gilda's Club joined forces to become the cancer support community. By helping to complete the cancer care plan, the cancer support community continues to help optimize patient care by providing essential, but often overlooked, services including support groups, counseling, education, and healthy lifestyle programs. Today, the cancer support community provides the highest quality of emotional and social support through a network of nearly 50 local affiliates, more than 100 satellite locations, and online.
