Nature of Work
The MIPS Deputy Director is responsible for administrative and professional work directing and coordinating the activities and operations of MIPS, Inc. Work involves responsibility for the development and coordination of programs, products and services for counties and includes the supervision of employees involved in a variety of information services activities. Work also includes the facility security and developing profitable purchasing strategies while performing the full range of administrative responsibilities for the division; and working with NACO staff and county officials as an advisor related to technologies that improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Supervision is exercised over a staff of professional and technical employees. Work is reviewed in the form of reports and effectiveness of services provided. This position works alongside the NACO Deputy Director and reports to the Executive Director.
Essential Job Functions
- Establishes, directs and administers systems used by counties that access MIPS applications.
- Directs and supervises work of employees relating to the planning, development and coordination of the application systems.
- Evaluate legacy systems for technical upgrade and ensure new systems fit into developed framework.
- Develop and maintain a customer-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, key employee retention and development, and high performance.
- Assist in developing marketing strategies to serve all 93 Nebraska counties.
- Mentor newly hired employees and execute the document engagement plan throughout the onboarding process; managing the end to end onboarding process, ensuring a great experience for new employees and a smooth smart into their roles.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director and the NACO Deputy Director regarding the technical vision of the organization and county applications.
- Proactively drive the vision of the organization and look to leverage synergy across to NACO and Nebraska counties.
- Make recommendations to the Executive Director related to technologies that improve county office efficiency and effectiveness.
- Plans, organizes and directs the overall activities of technology in the office, including the functions of systems including but not limited to the network, telephones, security, email and internet.
- Stays current on the changing trends in IT, including cyber security; makes recommendations to the NACO Executive Director.
- Conducts research and case studies on leading edge technologies and makes determinations on the probability of implementation for both inward and outward facing initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or the equivalent and five years of experience in related information technology field of networking, coding, databases, and five years of experience supervising activities of IT staff.
