The College of Business is seeking a Director of Marketing. This is a full-time (1.00
FTE
), 12-month, professional faculty position.
This is a College of Business (COB) leadership position with the responsibility and accountability to manage the day-to-day marketing and communication needs of the college and to implement local and regional strategies aimed at enhancing the reputation and broad scale awareness of the College of Business and its programs.
The director reports to the dean and collaborates with College of Business leadership team as well as marketing communications leadership within and across the university. The director serves as liaison to and oversees marketing and communication efforts for all COB programs. The director participates in College of Business leadership team meetings.
The Director will be responsible for managing the marketing and communication needs of the College to support the strategic initiatives identified by the Dean, including, but not limited to, recruiting students, enhancing the reputation of the college, growing the resources of the college and supporting regional advancement through industry partnerships and alumni development.
The director works in a highly dynamic and entrepreneurial environment to create and implement plans that further external stakeholders’ strategic goals as well as increase public and private awareness of the college, attract a diverse group of students to our programs, increase donor financial support of the college’s mission, generate recognition for college faculty and programs, and enhance corporate relations.
Key activities include:
- independent analysis to formulate long-term and short-term marketing and communications plans and project schedules and communicating those to stakeholders;
- managing marketing and communications plans and administering their budgets.
- designing and executing integrated marketing strategy, including digital marketing strategy;
- development and recommendation of segmentation strategies;
- development and oversight of market research and market development plans;
- supervision of staff as assigned;
- development and oversight of messaging and consistency in marketing and communications
- coordinating all public relations efforts alongside University Relations and Marketing, media purchase/placement, and major College events and event promotions.

Researches strategic marketing and communications plans, with an eye to identify best practices and strengthen our competitive market position. Engages in market research and market development. Evaluates outcomes of various initiatives and makes determinations on continuation or change in marketing and communications plans. Develops, implements, and maintains a strategic marketing and communications plan for the college that is consistent with the university’s image platform and best practices for similar academic programs. Designs and executes integrated marketing strategy, including digital marketing strategy. Creates and disseminates information to a variety of outside audiences to enhance awareness of and involvement with the college’s academic and research missions. Coordinates with the Dean to determine priorities for newsletters, websites, annual reports, etc. Oversees the research, interviews, writing and editing features for marketing and communications needs.
35% Promote and Develop Strategic Relations

2. provide marketing and communication support to Advancement team with the goal of increasing donor giving,
3. recruit undergraduate and graduate students,
4. provide marketing and communication support to the Advancement team with the goal of increasing corporate engagement, including opportunities for resource procurement, faculty research, and student internships.
15% Supervision
Provides leadership, supervision and direction for assigned staff. Hires and trains employees; plans, assigns and reviews work, establishes goals for each position and assesses performance through completion of written evaluations; acts on disciplinary issues, up to and including dismissal; addresses grievances, developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary.
15% Administration and Program Management

- Serves as professional interface with OSU Foundation and OSU Alumni Association to strengthen ties with alumni and prospective, ongoing and major donors.
- Coordinates with University Relations and Marketing to collaborate on strategic initiatives and ensure brand compliance
- Oversees the advancement and real-time communication vehicles to increase college fund-development.
- Works with internal and external stakeholders to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to marketing strategies regarding our academic research, instructional and outreach programs.

- Manages marketing and communications budget to support college marketing and communications plans.
- Serves on the college administrative team.
- Provides counsel to the Dean and college leadership with regard to communications and marketing activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Journalism or related field.
- At least 5 years of responsible, visible, professional marketing, communications, journalism and/or public relations experience, of which two years include leadership and supervision experience and managing communications and marketing functions.
- Project management experience.
- Outstanding written and interpersonal communications skills.
- Experience designing and/or executing integrated marketing plans, including digital marketing strategy.
- A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

- Experience with event marketing.
- Experience with web technologies and managing a website.
- Experience using project management software.
- Experience with speech writing and/or executive communication support.
- Experience with presenting.
This position may be hybrid (as agreed upon between the employee and supervisor), based in Corvallis or in Portland. Regardless of primary work location, regular travel to events, meetings, and activities, many of which are Corvallis-based, will be required.
