Position Summary

The Director is an essential role in the continued acceleration of our company, which is already the largest specialty food distributor on the East Coast. They will join a team focused on innovation and a culture that offers the energy of a well-funded startup with the stability of a profitable company. You will own the strategic vision for multiple lines of products, from customer-driven to internal digital products and processes. This includes prioritizing stakeholder issues based on business impact, creating solutions, developing a roadmap, ensuring seamless end-to-end implementation, measuring impact, and optimizing to improve results. You will be tasked with building, managing, training, and improving a team of product managers across vast streams. The tools for your task include existing packaged and custom-built software, and you will also be asked to see gaps in our stack and identify new technologies needed for our journey. Recent projects within the team have included creating the systems for a delivery-driver incentive program, building out a “buy local” commitment on our website baldorfoods.com, and choosing/onboarding a new ERP system.
While this role reports to the Technology team, you will work cross-functionally with subject matter experts across marketing, HR, transportation, operations, leadership, and more to understand challenges and opportunities for the business and develop solutions that improve customer experience, reduce friction in internal processes, and/or grow revenue. You see these internal stakeholders as your customer, but you will also be relentlessly focused on the needs of the actual customer. You are a true mentor and leader, who excels in building Products and implementing structures and processes around product management.
You will report to our Senior Director of Technology and be a thought partner, who is equally comfortable challenging existing systems and ideas as building within them.
This role will be hybrid, with an expectation to work at least three days a week in our Bronx, NY headquarters.
Responsibilities:
- Attract, build and lead a high performing diverse Product Management team that focuses on customer service, teamwork, and performance
- Own a high-level roadmap of products across multiple domains including Ecommerce, Inbound and Outbound Logistics, Retail operations, Fulfillment, Logistics, Last mile delivery, and more.
- Understand and co-own stakeholder needs, meeting regularly with partners to understand their pain points and challenges while managing a team to own a backlog.
- Audit the existing digital product infrastructure and customer journey and provide a SWOT analysis that will inform future opportunities; seek out areas to modernize and future-proof.
- Manage vendor relations, to understand all features and new releases of our software and tools and maximize the value and profitability of these tools.
- Manage and share the cross-company roadmap for the next 18 months: Develop a backlog from own audit, stakeholder input, and vendor conversations. Prioritize projects based on business impact, size of lift (“t-shirt size”), and leadership focus areas.
- Set the long–term product strategy and communicate it to leadership on a cadence
- Establish processes to eliminate gaps and improve communication among the product team, engineering, and stakeholders.
- Manage your team's execution.
- Manage stakeholder satisfaction. Communicate proactively and regularly, providing roadmap reviews and product updates.
- Establish and measure KPIs for new and existing products; Provide data-based decisions for program success and growth while considering trade-offs and mitigating risks
- Validate assumptions based on testing; A/B, multivariate, and user testing; begin with an MVP where appropriate to avoid wasted time.
- Establish a growth plan for the Product Team members, and lead and manage by example.
Qualifications & Experience:
- At least 4-5 years of experience in product management for a B2C or highly focused B2B product
- Ability to create alignment in cross-functional teams, through socialization, persuasion, and transparency
- Self-motivated and driven to always improve
- Experience using Agile methodology but not being rigid about its execution
- Comfort with project management and product management tools like JIRA and Confluence
- Ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization
- Metrics-driven and able to use numbers to drive decisions
- Excellent organizational skills in a multitasked environment
- Critical thinker and problem solver
- Bachelors/MS in Computer Science or related field is a plus
