Job Summary:

The Director of Programs will be a strategic thought partner and play a critical role in supporting the senior leadership team in all programmatic efforts. The ideal candidate is a hands-on and participative team member charged with setting and implementing goals that are data-informed, collaborative in nature, and put military and veteran families first. MFAN is committed to measurable impact, and a successful applicant will have experience building, managing, and evaluating programmatic outcomes, and communicating to internal and external audiences.

This position will assist the senior leadership team in strategic decision making and operations as MFAN continues to enhance and build capacity around its quality programming. Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, outcomes-focused program design, and leading a remote team are required. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, exempt position. Standard hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Monday–Thursday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET on Fridays, unless otherwise approved by department lead. As this is a fully remote position, candidates are expected to have a dedicated workspace and access to high-speed internet. There will be occasions when extended hours are required due to events, travel, meetings, or other requirements. This position is limited to a candidate living in the 48 contiguous states.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Build visionary, creative solutions and partnerships that respond to data-informed needs of military and veteran families
  • Set, plan, launch, and manage MFAN’s objectives as outlined in the organization’s strategic plan
  • Work across departments to coordinate data-informed solutions that meet the needs of varied stakeholders
  • Serve as an operational lead for MFAN’s resource connection efforts, Advisory Board, and coalitions
  • Identify opportunities to partner with external organizations that are highly intentional and embrace the spirit of collaboration
  • Report to funders and partners, as appropriate and required in grant agreements
  • Collaborate with the public affairs team to build awareness and engagement around campaigns and programs
  • Support grant writing and reporting for programs
  • Support fundraising efforts and steward partners who have invested in MFAN programs
  • Work with MFAN leadership to develop future strategic plans and budgets
  • Facilitate high-profile meetings, including MFAN coalitions
  • Represent MFAN and yourself with care, polish, and an authentic commitment to positive outcomes for military families
  • Supervise network engagement manager, programs manager, and future programs staff
  • Any other duties assigned to this position

Required Skills/Abilities/ Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s and/or professional degree preferred
  • Minimum seven years of experience in nonprofit program management
  • Experience supervising staff and volunteers
  • Proven performance of facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a growing organization
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • A track record in managing programs funded with corporate, foundation, and government funds
  • Technologically savvy
  • Strong mentoring and coaching experience on a team with diverse levels of expertise
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive — a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical programmatic initiatives
  • Appreciation for military life and an understanding of the military and veteran organization landscape
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail
  • Proven self-starter with strong interpersonal and time management skills
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outline scope and timeline
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

The work environment described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The qualified employee will work in a dynamic home office setting, and interact with staff and consultants, and therefore may be subjected to interruptions throughout the workday. The position will require some flexible hours, and when applicable, local and national travel will be required.

Travel:

Travel is on an as-needed basis for this position but is expected at a minimum of once per quarter. Travel may include meetings, events, presentations, etc.
