Position Summary
The Director of Quality is an integral part of the organization senior management team. Responsible for the compliance of Teledyne Controls’ Deliverable Product(s) and Service(s) to our customer(s) or contractual requirements, and applicable regulatory or statutory provisions and guidelines. Will be responsible for assuring the compliance of Teledyne Controls product development projects, and thereafter the product(s) technical baselines, with the company’s established engineering development processes, and when applicable, with our customer(s) and/or our contractual requirements.
As the Quality Director, he or she must ensure that functional managers and employees across the company are in compliance with the rules and regulations of regulatory agencies and applicable industry standards; and that the company Quality Management System (QMS) Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions are being followed, and behavior in the organization meets the company’s Standards of Conduct.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Manage and oversee the Quality Control Function covering factory quality, supplier quality, repair station quality, quality inspection, and quality engineering.
- Manage and oversee the Design Quality Assurance (DQA) Function and the DQA Engineering Staff.
- Manage and oversee the Material Review Board (MRB) Processes and MRB Administration.
- Manage and oversee the Metrology and Preventive Maintenance Processes and Administration.
- Manage and oversee the Record Management Processes and Records Administration covering outside record retention storage, record scanning and hosting processes, record retrieval process, and suppliers record service support.
- Manage and oversee the Customer Property Management Processes and Administration.
- Maintain Company Regulatory Approvals: FAA PMA, FAA FSDO, CAAC, and EASA.
- Maintain Company AS9100D and ISO 9100:2015 Approvals.
- Provide Sales & Marketing with quality & regulatory compliance related proposals inputs, and quality compliance matrix when required.
- Provide Customer Administration & Contracts with feedback regarding customer-imposed Purchase Orders (POs) quality provisions, and address and resolve customer / PO Regulatory PMA issues.
- Perform contract review for quality provisions as part of the contract formation process.
- Review and support required updates to QMS Processes, Quality System Manual (QSM), Quality Policy and Procedure Manual (QPPM), Design Quality Assurance Manual (DQAM), FAA Supplemental Quality Manuals, Repair Station Manuals (FAA, EASA, and CAAC) for compliance with internal QMS Requirements, external customer requirements, AS/ISO standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Review and support manufacturing quality process changes for compliance with imposed requirements (AS/ISO, Regulatory, and customer).
- Review and support the development processes and provide guidance for compliance with internal and customer-imposed requirements.
- Review and approve Teledyne Process Specifications (TPS) or Teledyne Material Specification (TMS) and support the TPS or TMS process changes for compliance.
- Define, capture, and maintain Customer, Program, and Regulatory Quality requirements to be imposed on Suppliers and on specific new development programs/products.
- For new development projects, review new or updates to Supplier related Statement of Works (SOWs) to ensure that they include appropriate quality provisions and quality requirements.
- Communicate quality issues, defect trends, and quality escapes to all relevant organizational departments.
- Review and address External Customer Corrective Action Requests. Perform Root-Cause Analysis and other problem-solving activities regarding reported non-conformance of products or processes, and/or quality escapes in order to identify and implement effective, containment actions, corrective actions, and process improvements.
- Interface with supplier(s) and customer(s) quality representatives concerning problems with quality control and assure that effective containment or corrective actions are implemented.
- Participate in and support as required internal and external quality audits.
- Review technical publications, articles, regulatory standards, industry trends and abstracts to stay abreast of issues in the quality control industry.
- Work to avoid erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results that may cause scrap, rework, use of excessive overtime, and/or delays in schedules.
- Interact with subordinate supervisors, outside customers, and functional peer groups at various management levels. Interaction normally requires the ability to inspire and gain cooperation of others, to conduct or aid other in conducting presentations or to exchange information.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job provides leadership and management to functional area(s) which may include supervision of managers and supervisors and direct supervision of other exempt and non-exempt personnel. Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include providing leadership to employees, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. This position is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees under direct supervision.
Establish operational objectives for quality and direct subordinates to achieve assignments by providing leadership, assigning tasks, and checking work at appropriate intervals to determine status of assigned projects and ensure goals are met within organization budget, time requirements and high level of quality.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year College or university is the minimum requirement for education
- Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in Quality Assurance in Aerospace, Quality Compliance, and AS9100D/ISO9001:2015 Audit experience, FAA Part 21, and Part 145 working environment
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- AS9100D/ISO9001:2015 Certified Auditor preferred.
- ASQ Certificate in Quality Leadership, Quality Audit, Quality Engineering or Six Sigma is preferred.
- Recent IPC-610, IPC-620, IPC-600, and J-STD-001 Standards are preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Must be a US Person.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English (FAA Requirement).
- 10-year experience performing Quality Assurance of Black Boxes in an Aerospace environment.
- 5-year experience working as a supervisor.
- 10-year experience working in an AS9100 or ISO 9001 environment.
- OEM Processes such as Airbus ASR & ABD0100 working knowledge is preferred.
- DO-178 & DO-254 Product Life Cycle Processes knowledge is preferred.
- Experience or working knowledge with AS9145 APQP/PPAP Standard is preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $150,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
