Purpose

This position will oversee research operations for two large and closely related cohort studies; the studies have lead investigators at multiple universities. The objective of the larger project is to collect and analyze large-scale longitudinal data to examine the effects of education on disparities in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Responsibilities

Coordinate, manage, and monitor data collection for the National Longitudinal Study of the High School Class of 1972 (NLS72) and for the High School & Beyond (HSB) study. This includes coordinating, managing, and monitoring data cleaning, documentation, dissemination, and analysis activities across multiple project sites, data collection/linking/storage across vendors, and communications with and reporting to government agencies.

Develop, implement, and manage the project’s organizational structure, internal and external communications, record-keeping and reporting activities, and workplace culture.

Plan, coordinate, prepare for, and attend meetings with the PI team, project staff, data collection/storage vendors, funders, outside projects, and others.

Coordinate, manage, and monitor NLS72 and HSB project activities and compliance with IRB, funder, institutional, data sharing/storage, and other regulations and requirements.

Work with specialized university, vendor, and site staff to coordinate, manage, and monitor (1) project budgeting, financial planning, accounting, and financial reporting functions and (2) data, metadata, and documentation creation and storage.

Facilitate the development, implementation, and management of new project activities and initiatives as they arise.

Assist in the creation of the project’s documentation, data descriptions, web sites, applications for funding, and applications for access to external data that might be linked to HSB and/or NLS72.

Assist in writing annual reports to funders, IRB applications, and other related tasks.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Attention to detail, strong organizational, management, and communications skills

Ability to multi-task and stay focused on the larger picture while addressing daily issues

Experience managing, supervising, and coordinating large research projects, including experience with IRB compliance, human resources activities, project funding, budgeting, and accounting

Ability to work professionally in a dynamic, complex, diverse, and demanding work environment

Strong technical writing skills

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s or doctoral degree in sociology, psychology, economics, epidemiology, demography, neurology, or a related field

Experience managing research staff

Experience with large-scale data collection and analysis

Experience with gaining community engagement in research

Knowledge of educational processes and/or the social, institutional, or biological factors that impact people's risk of dementia or Alzheimer's disease

Experience preparing scientific manuscripts as part of a collaborative research team

Experience with Stata, R, or comparable statistical software packages

Salary Range

$90,508-$167,280

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
