The Trade Director - Alaska Trade Lane will work to ensure customer satisfaction with existing major clients and also help to drive business opportunities that have a significant impact to our company’s overall revenue and margin. This position must have the leadership skills necessary to support Lynden in the handling of all business and activities in the Alaska Trade Lane. Must have exceptional organizational skills and communication skills. Must have tactical knowledge and competency in Lynden systems, our customer requirements, and Alaska Trade Lane verticals. Must have a willingness to travel. Must be able to execute business decisions system-wide based on the trade lane/market requirements. Must be objective, impartial, and fair. This position reports to the Vice President of Trade.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.

  • Responsible for trade activity in and out of the Alaska trade lane. Monitor and evaluate trade lane business performance using Tableau. Overall responsibility for the trade lane P&L.
  • Alongside executive management, create and execute annual and long term objectives that provide strategic direction for continued growth and activity within the Alaska trade lane.
  • Alongside executive management, decide upon and implement strategies to drive efficiencies in our organization.
  • Alongside executive management, decide upon and implement target business plan to grow customer base.
  • Review Tableau and implement corrective action plans for business below margin guidelines.
  • Develop & be responsible for business plan, budgets, and managing proforma results.
  • Maintain account activity in the Alaska trade lane including direct support for our key strategic customers.
  • Collaborates with internal departments such as marketing, Business Development Directors, Field Sales/Operations and external partners in the development and implementation of sales strategies and standard operating procedures to ensure business growth in the Alaska trade lane throughout our global network (including overseas partners, U.S. stations and gateways).
  • Support cartage, line-haul, airline and ocean carrier service arrangements.
  • Identify relationships with key vendors.
  • Assist field in implementing new business on boarding.
  • Identify, develop, and market new products & services.
  • Develop pricing tools that will assist the field in closing business.
  • Review existing client base for additional opportunities.
  • Assist system wide with customer proposals and RFQs. Accompany sales staff on customer calls when warranted.
  • Facilitate vendor quality business reviews – assist vendor negotiations
  • Support sales and operations activities system wide.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience selling or working on the operations side of Freight Forwarding services (Domestic and International Air, Ocean), Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year College or University a plus; or one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. High School/GED diploma required.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the domestic and international transportation industry (air, trucking and ocean modes)
  • Experience building and maintaining a client base through new business opportunities, and growth with existing customers, using person-to-person and social networking opportunities.
  • Experience working with tariffs and governmental regulations.
  • Experience effectively presenting business opportunities to others.
  • Experience balancing customer and operations expectations
  • Ability to calculate and apply concepts such as dimensionalized weight, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Familiar with MS Office products.
  • Must be able to travel locally and overnight to meet business requirements.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test and undergo background investigation.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Ability to possess and maintain a TSA Security Threat Assessment(STA) with a status of Passed, or a TSA recognized equivalent. TSA recognized equivalents include a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge, Commercial Driver’s License(CDL) with Hazmat Endorsement issued within the 50 States or District of Columbia, the Transportation Worker Identification Card(TWIC), or Free and Secure Trade(FAST) card issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. STA’s will be submitted by Lynden International upon job offer and renewed thereafter. Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
