Sr. Manager/Director of Special Projects Job Description

ApolloMed (NASDAQ: AMEH) is a physician-centric, technology-powered healthcare management company. We are building and operating a novel, integrated, value-based healthcare delivery platform to empower our physicians to provide the highest quality of end-to-end care for their patients in a cost-effective manner. Our mission is to combine our clinical experience, best-in-class delivery network, and technological expertise in order to improve patient outcomes, increase access to healthcare, and make the US healthcare system more efficient.

With over a million managed lives across the country and terabytes of data generated, our software and applications need to be cutting-edge, efficient, and aligned with our core values of improving patient outcomes and empowering our providers.

The Senior Manager/Director of Special Projects will be a results-driven leader with a broad scope of responsibility and will be instrumental in executing projects to optimize and scale Apollo’s MSO operations (Network Medical Management). The successful incumbent will be directly involved in the company’s operational strategy and will develop, manage, and maintain multiple critical initiatives to support the organization’s growth and meet department goals. This individual will have a high capacity for GSD (get stuff done) and model the company’s core values and commitment to supporting providers in transitioning to value-based care and transforming healthcare delivery, especially in underserved communities. This role reports to the VP of Strategy & Operations.

You are:

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and biased towards action. You can identify the 20% of the work that leads to 80% of the result, and mobilize and execute the high-impact work consistently. You enjoy thinking about complex and ambiguous problems and can execute consistently and add compounding value.

  • Relentlessly resourceful. You enjoy taking ownership and can motivate others to get things done. You are resilient, detail-oriented, and truly believe that no task is beneath you, even in the face of potential challenges.

  • Growth-oriented. You are able to evaluate all perspectives, even if uncomfortable, and have the courage to adjust your views if necessary. You have the expertise and communication skills to balance a growth mindset with a bias towards action.

  • Mission-driven. You are excited by the prospect of diving into complex problems that will drastically improve patient outcomes, while lowering the cost of a tremendously inefficient US healthcare system, where waste is over 40% and per-capita healthcare dollars spent is double that of other developed nations.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and implement high visibility, cross-functional initiatives; scope, plan and execute multiple, often quick-turnaround projects with minimal assistance
  • Proactively identify and lead process improvement opportunities within MSO operations
  • Partner with appropriate stakeholders, including outside parties, to help create new solutions to address difficult and long-standing challenges in enabling independent doctors to successfully transition and participate in value-based care
  • Coordinate and drive planning activities, including milestone setting, resource planning, scenario planning, and developing action plans based off of cross-functional inputs and assumptions
  • Engage with leadership team to execute on multi-year strategic roadmap and participate in annual goal setting and tracking

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, health administration or related field
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in strategy, management consulting, or general management in a health care related field
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to effectively follow through and drive projects through completion in a dynamic, matrixed environment with a high degree of organizational change, growth and ambiguity
  • Solid history of quickly gaining credibility, partnering with business leaders and exhibiting executive presence

Preferred qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s degree
  • Extensive experience with managed care organizations (e.g., medical group operations, IPA’s, etc.)
  • Resourcefulness—the ability to find and implement effective solutions despite time or resource constraints
  • Sound judgement, ability to analyze situations and information, problem solver
  • Ability to work independently with little guidance, as well as collaboratively in a collegial environment with business team members and external stakeholders
