SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Director of Student Services is a member of the district leadership team under the supervision of the Superintendent of Schools. The Director provides system-wide leadership and is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of special education and other student services to meet the varying needs of all students. The Director plays a significant role in facilitating communication with staff, parents, and advocates regarding the delivery of special education services.
The Director engages in continuous collaboration with principals, administrators, and educators to provide leadership, professional development, and support for providing services. The Director is a thoughtful problem-solver and a strategic thinker who uses creative, energizing ideas to support students, families and educators.RESPONSIBILITIES: -Oversee the process of identification, evaluation, and service delivery to students with disabilities through a diverse, equitable lens of inclusion-Plan, develop, and coordinate district-wide systems of Special Education, psychological services, guidance, social casework, and health services-Plan and coordinate district-wide counseling supports and the provision of mental health services for students-Provide leadership in the delivery of differentiated curriculum and instructional practices-Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of the district and school-wide Improvement Plans and strategic initiatives to close achievement gaps-Ensure implementation and evaluation of the district framework for Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to ensure full integration of all developmental (Academic/SEL/Behavioral) support activities -Collaborate with other district leaders to develop, implement, and evaluate the District framework for MTSS-Ensure the establishment of evidence-based interventions for Tier II and Tier III supports and services across school sites, including the development of integrated plans to support student success-Support, implement, and oversee SEL curriculum and universal assessment (administration and data management) and screening-Prepare and administer the Student Services budget, in collaboration with the Director of Finance and Operations, including the recommendation and evaluation of appropriate programs and staff to serve Preschool to grade 12 students-Oversee students in out-of-district placements-Provide leadership and representation utilizing due process procedures-Assist with resolution of parent issues or requests related to student support services, equity, alternative education or general district placement of students in educational programming-Coordinate transportation services for students with disabilities-Work collaboratively with public and private agencies and organizations to secure and provide services in a wide-variety of areas-Coordinate the districts Special Education Parent Advisory Council-Work collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction to provide in-service programs for staff regarding student service topics, including Special Education-Assist other administrative personnel in the supervision of student service staff -Serve as the representative for the district on the Cape Cod Collaborative Administrative Board and other appropriate Boards -Prepare and administer student service grants, including those related to Special Education-Serve as Coordinator of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504, Title IX, and the McKinney-Vento Act.-Maintain records required by state and local regulations, and serve as student records consultant to district staff-Conduct other appropriate duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those commonly associated with this position: -Promote an open, inclusive environment for all-Envision excellence and promote high expectations for all students-Possess a working knowledge of MTSS and Student Support Problem Solving Process; Experience in effectively implementing school-wide PBIS and Restorative Practices-Develop effective working relationships with staff and families-Lead and plan accordingly with a district-wide perspective-Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Special Education laws, regulations, procedures and the ability to research best practices while monitoring compliance -Possess a working knowledge of assessment systems and best practices in Special Education -Communicate effectively both orally and in writing -Exhibit strong public speaking skills that include an approachable style of communication -Possess strong organizational skills with attention to detail
