SUMMARY OF DIRECTOR OF SUBSURFACE*

The Director of Subsurface will develop workflows and perform the key tasks for defining, developing and permitting a CCS project, including site selection, characterization, risk assessment, and monitoring for operational and post-operation phases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop robust technical support for CCS project permitting activities. Screen potential storage and production fields and estimate available capacity.
  • Facilitate acquisition and interpretation of geophysical data, to identify suitable formations for potential CO2 injection.
  • Utilize geomechanical models and imaging techniques to evaluate cap rock, trap integrity and analyze fault seals of identified formations.
  • Lead the development of reservoir characterization studies and dynamic reservoir models to assess reservoir capacity, connectivity and permeability and assess results to optimize storage design for CCS/CCUS projects.
  • Develop geological frameworks and property models that will be used as input for simulation.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE*
Masters degree in Geology or Geophysics from an accredited university is preferred. 8+ years experience as a geoscientist in the upstream oil and gas sector. 2+ years as an operations geologist in an upstream environment. 2+ year of leadership experience.

TECHNICAL SKILLS*

  • Strong mapping and correlation skills and experience with 3D visualization, mapping and stratigraphic correlation software such as Petrel.
  • Familiarity with sequence stratigraphy and seismic interpretation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of rock and fluid mechanics as they relate to fluid flow, and reservoir confinement.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project economics and cashflow modelling
  • Familiarity with injection well regulations and permitting
  • Familiarity with basic principles of finance and accounting.
