The Hearst Talent Center of Excellence provides learning and development programs employees at all levels across Hearst. Our goal is to develop our exceptional leaders and employees through impactful and scalable learning experiences. R eporting to the Vice President of Talent Development and Learning, the Director of Talent Development will develop and lead programs that connect employees in an inclusive and engaging learning environment.

You are an analytical thinker with the ability to distill and convey information in a captivating and influential way.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborates with functional areas and organizational leaders to assess ongoing and future training and developmental needs
  • Develops a program delivery schedule that provides training as needed for employees across the business
  • Oversees and establishes relationships with vendors to provide additional outside training programs
  • Develop programs, materials and job aids designed to meet identified instructional/informational needs
  • Acts as a coach and facilitator to learner groups and individuals in accordance with training programs’ strategies and objectives.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and revises training programs, materials and instructional aids as required to ensure achievement of program objectives by individual learners and the program plan as a whole

Conscious Inclusion Program:

  • Manage internal Conscious Inclusion program; Assess opportunities for continuing education via new content facilitated personally and/or in partnership with external vendors
  • Facilitate INCLUDE training program
  • Lead Social Impact Group volunteer efforts; facilitate meetings and manage ongoing success of group
  • Work in partnership with key stakeholders to create buy-in and understanding of critical programs
  • Design, implement and monitor programs designed to ensure fair and equitable treatment of employees, clients, and vendors

Employee Resource Groups:

  • Assess opportunities for organization-wide employee resource groups
  • Implement and manage new employee resource groups
  • Provide guidance to our evolving employee resource groups

Talent Center of Excellent Team and DEI Efforts:

  • Exercise expertise and subject matter knowledge to craft presentations and external materials around the Talent Center of Excellence (TCOE) DEI efforts
  • Track and leverage data to identify opportunities for growth, promote adoption of inclusive practices, and communicate insights & recommendations to TCOE leadership
  • Establish and maintain an internal audit and reporting system to allow for effective measurement of programs
  • Stay abreast of instructional design, learning, and DEI trends, developments, and best practices through partnerships with professional associations and diversity focused organizations
  • Build and maintain productive internal/external relationships necessary to advance and support our DEI strategy, programs and initiatives
  • Responsible for planning and managing DEI projects and programs to ensure they are completed on time and within budget and scope

Collaboration at Hearst:

  • Collaborate with the following internal departments/teams:
    • TCOE Learning and Development team members to expand DEI training curriculum to help employees contribute to Hearst being an organization of belonging and inclusion
    • HR Business Partners to ensure all employees have equitable access to professional development, advancement and opportunities leading to improved retention of diverse talent
    • Branding and communication to ensure visibility of our diversity efforts and that all aspects of internal and external facing communications are filtered through a DEI lens
    • HR Operations for reporting and analysis of key metrics

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 8+ years of learning and development experience with a focus on organizational change
  • 3+ years of diversity, equity and inclusion program implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly establish rapport, build credibility and create partnerships at all levels internally and externally
  • Proven experience translating vision into strategy and delivering against the plan
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; including public speaking
  • Experience leveraging data and analytics to develop insights and drive decision-making
  • Strong project management skills, and ability to operationalize and scale programs with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and ambiguity
  • Attention to detail and a highly organized, process-focused aptitude
  • Proactive in providing solutions and resolving issues
  • Ability to motivate, influence and coach senior leadership, stakeholders, and peer groups
  • Effectively exhibits active and empathetic listening skills
  • Evidence of managing a wide array of stakeholder communications and relationships (internal and external) in a complex business environment

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York City. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York City, is $150,000-$170,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York City. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York City, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
