Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Safety, this role ensures drivers are assessed and can successfully operate a Village Travel bus or semi-truck according to law and Village Travel policies. The Driver Trainer is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting classroom and behind-the-wheel training for potential drivers. The trainer will also provide on-going training for drivers in addition to monitoring and reporting on drivers’ knowledge and skills.

This position is Full Time, 8am-5pm on weekdays with occasional weekends required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Schedule and conduct driver training in accordance with the curriculum for potential drivers which can include classroom and behind-the-wheel training.
• Attend meetings regarding new laws and training requirements.
• Conduct meetings with drivers to discuss laws, training requirements and various safety and vehicle operations.
• Coordinate with local testing authorities to ensure training is in compliance with expectations.
• Assist in identification and follow-up of safety hazards for drivers.
• Provide support in development and implementation of training initiatives.
• Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting driver functions and help ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
• Evaluate and train drivers that are experiencing accidents and/or traffic safety issues.
• Travel to other Village Travel locations to provide training as necessary.
• Perform periodic check-ins/evaluations with drivers.
• Some weekends may be required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• HS Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a current CDL.
• Prior experience in transportation industry.
• Prior experience in a trainer position.
• Working knowledge of DOT Regulations.
• Must prioritize, implement, and manage work schedules, projects and assignments.
• Be able to multi-task effectively and manage time efficiently.
• Excellent organization skills and communication skills, both written and verbally.
• Must be highly motivated and team oriented.
• Must have the ability to work with different technology and programs.
• Must pass drug and alcohol screening tests as mandated by DOT regulations.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, bend and sit. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds.
