Innovation and passion for helping patients is at the core of everything we do at Genentech and makes us leaders in our field. We believe diversity in our science; our culture and people drive this innovation. Genentech is also strongly committed to helping train the next generation of scientific leaders and to giving back to our local communities. To continue to drive innovation and remain industry leaders, we must build an environment that will draw on diversity, inclusion, and engagement at all levels. In our candidate search, we will be seeking candidates who share similar values, exhibit potential to grow their careers and leadership capabilities in a diverse, collaborative and challenging environment.
Development Sciences and Translational Medicine groups sits within Genentech’s Research and Early Development (gRED) function, which combines the best of the academic and corporate worlds, allowing researchers not only to pursue important scientific questions, but also to watch an idea move from the laboratory into clinical development and ultimately to patients. Our core mission is to translate scientific hypotheses into therapeutic possibilities by enabling the discovery and development of safe and effective therapeutics at optimal doses in relevant populations.
Currently, we are looking to build a talent pipeline to help us achieve these goals. This is why we’ve developed the gRED’s Drug Development Training Program (DDTP). The aim is to bring Early-in-Career doctoral graduates (PhD, MD/PhD, DVM or equivalent) to Genentech for hands-on training and mentorship in multiple areas of pre-clinical and clinical drug development. The goal of the DDTP program is to prepare participants with the skills and experience required to secure a future position as a scientist in a top-notch biomedical research organization.
The DDTP program will give recent top doctoral graduates the opportunity to gain specific on the job training in one of Development Sciences or Translational Medicine functions including Preclinical and Translational PKPD (Preclinical PK, Drug metabolism, Translational Sciences and Systems Pharmacology), Clinical Pharmacology (Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Trial Design, Dose-finding and Modeling and Simulation) , Safety Assessment (in vitro and in vivo Toxicology, Translational Sciences and Pathology) , BioAnalytical Sciences (PK and PD assay development and technology) , Informatics (Data Sciences), Oncology and Non-Oncology Biomarker Development (Clinical Biomarker Discovery and Development, Translational Sciences and Diagnostics) that are critical to the development of Genentech’s therapeutic projects. This program provides the opportunity to train in a key drug development discipline, gain a broader understanding of the processes surrounding drug development, work on ongoing development programs, and participate in and publish world-class science. The program is also tailored to provide training in technical and leadership skills, and coaching with DDTP managers and mentors.
The DDTP Program:
DDTP trainees will spend their full 3 years in one of the functions of the Development Sciences or Translational Medicine organizations, located in South San Francisco, California. At the end of the three-year period, successful participants should have the experience/skills needed to apply for Scientist positions at Genentech or at another top-notch drug development organization.
Throughout the program, participants are considered full-time employees of their assigned department and are eligible for Genentech’s employee benefits.
Who We Are Looking For:
Candidates with high potential for this position will be agile and open to learning multiple facets of the Drug Development business and processes. We are open to candidates with a broad range of experiences and backgrounds that help bring unique perspectives to meet our business goals. Candidates should also be highly self-motivated, and willing to work independently or as part of multi-disciplinary teams that strive to ensure the delivery of Genentech’s products to patients.
Other Qualifications:
Strong academic performance and publication record required
Experience working in research labs or industrial biotech internships
Strong interest in learning drug development and pursuing a career in industry
Demonstrated leadership skills and desire to help patients and their local communities
