In this role, you will initiate and authorize the establishment, collection, distribution, and/or modification and enforcement of financial, medical, and other child support obligations.

Some of what you'll do:


  • Independently negotiate with and/or interview custodial/absent parents, attorneys, and employers regarding their accounts and verify the accuracy of financial and informational data
  • Provide direct service to customers and partners through agency interpretation on complex policies, procedures, and laws
  • Perform complex substantive legal work including establishment of appropriate child support
  • Analyze, interpret, and apply State, Federal, and international laws pertaining to the legal determination of paternity and the establishment and enforcement of financial and medical child support
  • Negotiate debt repayment terms by analyzing asset and financial information such as pay stubs, tax returns, business earnings, and proof of expenses
  • Calculate complex financial and medical child support obligations and arrearages while applying the laws of other jurisdictions, tribal treaties, and federal and state laws
  • Research, review, analyze and interpret Court and Administrative Child Support Orders
  • Ensure accuracy for debt balances on simple and complex, single, and multiple cases concerning Federal and State accounting procedures
  • Exercise signature authority to initiate, establish and enforce legal notices of debt
  • Ensure debtors are given proper service and due process of law in legal proceedings regarding the establishment of liens, certification of licenses, and issuance of wage garnishments
  • Research and conduct intergovernmental modifications which can involve multiple jurisdictions including other states, sovereign tribal nations, or foreign countries

Who should apply:
  • Professionals with 2 years of college-level coursework + 2 years of experience in child support enforcement and/or debt collection related functions
  • Or, 2 years of experience as a Child Support Enforcement Technician

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for describe education/work experience.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Effective & flexible communication regarding private and sensitive information
  • Read, interpret, and understand legal documents
  • Manage a large, growing, and diverse caseload
  • Conflict resolution skills to appropriately handle emotionally charged interactions and clients
  • Investigative and interviewing skills to find information from a variety of sources
These are in-training opportunities and with successful completion of a one-year training program, you will become a Support Enforcement Officer 2.
