Summary

Nationally accredited Bright Start Academy is looking for Early Childhood teachers for all of their St. Louis locations! We have centers located in Overland, St. Charles, O'fallon, and Lake St. Louis.

The Lead Teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all children in their care, which may include infants, toddlers, preschool, and/or school age children; develops partnerships with parents/guardians to engage and encourage parent participation in program. The Lead Teacher is also responsible for assuring compliance with state, local, and Accreditation regulations, and Bright Start Academy policies. Works cooperatively with other staff members, management, and ownership of Bright Start Academy.

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for the safety and well-being of all children in their care, which may include infants, toddlers, preschool, and/or school age children. The Assistant Teacher is also responsible for assuring compliance with state, local, and Accreditation regulations, and Bright Start Academy policies. Works cooperatively with other staff members, management, and ownership of Bright Start Academy.

Duties

Assists Lead Teacher in any way possible. This includes, but is not limited to: implementation of daily curriculum, posting artwork and assisting with displays/bulletin boards, assisting at mealtime and naptime, etc.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of the Bright Start Academy Employee Handbook and abide by all policies at all times.
Follows all rules and regulations as required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), ServSafe guidelines, and Bright Start Academy food and nutrition guidelines.
Sit with children during all meals and snacks, encouraging healthy eating and modeling proper table manners.
Fill out the Name-To-Face attendance sheet daily and in a timely manner. Adhere to the Bright Start Academy Transition Policy at all times. Must always know how many children are in care at all times.
Provide responsive care to all children by adapting daily caregiving routines and plans to the interests and needs of the individual child and the group.
Understand and implement active supervision in the classroom.
Interact with children on their level and spend time rotating from the floor to the table to standing, etc.
Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the child's background by respecting the cultural, linguistic and familial values and beliefs of each child and family.
Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/guardians.
Assist the Lead Teacher in providing a classroom environment that encourages parent participation.
Maintain an environment that is clean, neat, and orderly. This includes the classroom, closets, cubbies, shelves, bathrooms, etc.
Attend monthly staff meetings and complete yearly training requirements in accordance with Bright Start Academy policy (24 hours per year/30 during 1st year of employment).
Completes daily reports, illness/injury/incident reports timely and accurately.
Assist Lead Teacher in maintaining up to date individual child development profile and other records as needed.
Reports any signs/symptoms of child abuse to the Lead Teacher and management team immediately.
Handle discipline in accordance with Bright Start Academy policies (i.e. no use of time out).
Implement Positive Behavior Support in the classroom and use redirection as opposed to distraction techniques to manage classroom behaviors.
Ensures that the Lead Teacher and/or breakers are kept updated in all matters concerning the classroom, i.e. classroom concerns, discussions with parents, etc.
Reports all staffing and classroom concerns to the Lead Teacher and management team in a timely manner.
Be flexible and understand that children may start any day, may need to move to a different classroom, and you may be asked to help out in another classroom. Approach these situations with a positive attitude.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED, and;
Must be 18 years of age or older, and;
Ability to pass a background screening, and;
Current CPR/First Aid certification (or completion within 30 days of hire)
