POSITION TITLE: EDITOR

STATUS: EXEMPT (36.25 HOURS PER WEEK)

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, interactive media or equivalent experience with strong skills in computing, logic and analysis and a dedication to deadlines
• Possession of, or vital interest in obtaining, intense and thorough knowledge of The Salvation Army—its doctrine, policy, history and mission
• Goal driven with the ability to adapt to change and to new opportunities
• Ability to work independently as well as a team and community member, fostering team spirit while exhibiting and contributing individual initiative
• Understanding of media law and industry ethical guidelines
• Understanding of photography, videography and basic editing
• Enthusiastic attitude

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Produce content for New Frontier Publications exercising creative latitude and independent judgment
• Manage and oversee sources, contributors and freelance writers in producing content and assigning coverage
• Participate in the planning and editing of New Frontier Publications products in print and online
• Initiate and maintain relationships with facets of The Salvation Army
• Serve as a representative of New Frontier Publications
• Grow audience of New Frontier Publications, always seeking to convert readers to deeper levels of engagement with The Salvation Army
• Other duties and projects as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
• Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead

• Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
• Ability to access and produce information from a computer
• Ability to understand written information

Experience

• Pervious experience in journalism, communications, or interactive media

Education

• Bachelors or better in Journalism or related field
