Job description
Position Summary: The Education Coordinator is responsible for effectively planning, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate programs, activities and special events that engage members in education for youth grades 1st – 6th. This position will engage youth in educational enrichment activities including summer reading, workforce development, and STEAM programming.
Qualifications:
- Ability to be trained in First Aid/CPR
- Degree or pursuing a degree in the Education field
- Prior experience working with children is preferred
- Communicate effectively with children and families from diverse backgrounds
- Courteous and professional to all staff, club members, and families
- Motivate youth and manage behavior problems
- Work with the general public
- Organize and supervise club members in a safe environment
- Must be able to pass a reference check and background check
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Standing or walking for up to 8 hours a day
- Pushing or lifting of up to 50lbs
- Ability to handle high noise levels for extended periods of time
- May be required to drive Club van or shuttle
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and implement a range of education program services and activities that prepare youth for success
- Create and maintain a healthy and safe environment through supervising members in the program area
- Create opportunities for Club member recognition by displaying educational successes within program area(s) and throughout the Club
- Ensure continuous quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending and implementing modifications that respond to member needs and interests
- Promote a safe, positive environment by supervising Club members in assigned program areas and throughout the Club
- Develop supportive relationships with Club members
- Act as a positive role model
- Utilize appropriate group and individual behavior management techniques to promote positive behaviors
- Utilize guidance and discipline policies
- Recruit Club members into education programs and encourage participation
- Submit a biweekly schedule outlining daily program activities to the Center Director
- Submit requests for program supplies and materials at least one week in advance
- Respond to communications promptly
- Oversee the organization and inventory of program supplies, materials, equipment and other resources belonging to the program area(s)
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of program area(s) and assist with the completion of Club site’s cleaning checklists
- Manage assigned volunteers and provide ongoing feedback
- Ensure inviting and friendly Education room atmosphere through decorations and Club member recognition and posted expectations
- Assume other duties as assigned
