Under the direction of the Chair of the Division of Education, the Education Faculty Member serves as the supervisor of student teachers and provides a critical role in supporting high-quality teacher preparation and clinical experiences. The Education Faculty Member ensures that effective partnerships and high-quality clinical practice are central to candidate preparation.

Through on-campus seminars and school site visits, the Education Faculty Member provides mentorship, guidance, and instruction to pre-service teachers. The faculty member also serves as a liaison for the Arkansas Division of Secondary and Elementary Education, TeachArkansas, CAEP, and cooperating schools and agencies. Additionally, the faculty member serves as the teacher licensure officer for the college.

Departments: Philander Smith College offers twenty undergraduate majors across five core academic divisions. Division of Education offers a licensure program in K-6 Elementary Education, and non-licensure programs in Physical Education and Educational Studies.

Qualifications:

The Applicant Must Have:

Master's degree in the discipline (Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Middle-Level Education, Secondary Education, Special Education, or Educational Administration).

Minimum of five years teaching experience.

Personal and professional commitment to inclusive education, diversity, advocacy, and social justice.

Strong mentorship and writing skills.

Hold a current Arkansas teaching license.

Preferred Experience:

Familiarity with the Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA).

Familiarity with online and virtual instruction.

Familiarity with Teacher Licensure Assessments in Arkansas and CAEP.

Responsibilities: The position requires the supervisor to:

Attend training sessions at the start of the semester; attend program meetings and workshops to support candidates (i.e. the edTPA, Praxis, Lesson Planning, Title II, and CAEP working days sessions).

Conduct multiple observations of candidate teaching in the field; meet and communicate regularly with candidate's mentor teacher; promote a positive relationship with the mentor teacher, school principal, school counselor; provide support and feedback to the candidate throughout the semester;

Assist program faculty in problem solving during the field experience/internship; keep candidates informed about any licensure changes; and complete formal assessments of the candidate at the midterm and/or conclusion of the semester. Keep accurate documentation of student progression through the program.

Additional responsibilities include:

Teach students in assigned classes in accordance with course descriptions and/or learning outcomes, the course syllabus, and institutional policies and procedures.

Provide students with a syllabus that includes required institutional policies, course objectives, materials, and methods of evaluation.

Provide a workload schedule showing teaching and office hours.
