General Summary
Under limited supervision, the EEG Technician is responsible for assuring accurate and timely neurodiagnostic testing. The EEG tech interprets and performs basic patient care procedures to assess quality testing specific to their area of expertise in accordance with medical staff approved protocols, physician orders, departmental policies and procedures and the American Society of Electrodiagnostic Testing guidelines.
The EEG Tech is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for care given to patients for a designated time frame. The EEG Tech provides care to those patients via therapeutic use of self, the environment/technology and other health care members, according to established standards. Patients served include all age groups (infant through adult-geriatric).

Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Manager of EEG/EMG and Sleep Center or his/her designee. Job requires limited level of supervision. Coordination of scheduled hours through Office Manager and/or Senior EEG Tech.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Six months experience in Electroencephalography required. Current BLS certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care is required. Previous experience using a business office suite, such as Microsoft Office, is required. R.EEG T credential from the ABRET EEG Registry is preferred.
Working Conditions
Works inside a clean, dimly lit environment. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and occasional crisis situations. May be physically or verbally abused by patients. Expected to work weekends and holidays as necessary for on-call. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observance of Standard (Universal) Precautions and Safe Handling Practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.
Physical Requirements
Standing, sitting, ascending/descending stairs and walking is required 0-8 hours per shift. Involves heavy lifting, carrying, push on rollers up to 200 lbs. and pulling in excess of 100 lbs. 0-3 hours per shift in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy. Manual dexterity for operating equipment which includes reaching for, fingering, grasping and handling equipment supplies 0-5 hours per shift. Requires hearing/listening to and differentiating sounds 0-5 hours per shift. Visual acuity is necessary to read labels, charts and documents and use various instruments 0-8 hours per shift.
