POSITION OVERVIEW
The English Learner Specialist will oversee and provide support for the English Learner Program.

Engage in all TELPAS Trainings that pertain to testing, test interpretation, differentiated instruction, professional development for teachers, etc.

Screen/test students whose parents indicate that they have a language other than English as indicated on the Home Language Survey form with the appropriate TELPAS Assessment if not already assessed from a previous school.

Reassess all EL students with the TELPAS reassessment.

Communicate with parents about the results of all screening/testing.

Provide professional development for teachers with EL students.

Keep appropriate paperwork on all student TELPAS Testing in a secured location.

Work with administration to create and manage a schedule to pull out students for English language instruction.

Service students during their English language development time.

Provide EL tutoring before or after school.

Provide support to EL students as needed during the school day.

Keep an electronic file of all EL students with current data on their English language acquisition.

Keep all documents required by the state of Texas in each EL student’s cumulative folder.

Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Education, Licensure, or Certification

ESL or Bilingual Endorsement
-
Bachelor’s degree Education related field

Arizona Employees:

Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
-
Arizona Teaching Certificate (with appropriate certification for grade or subject)

Appropriately Certified in grade or subject according to ESSA requirements and Department of Education

The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.

Must possess strong communication and organizational skills.

Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Positively interact with all students.

Create a safe learning environment that is conducive to learning.

Capable of designing lesson plans to meet student needs and school & state requirements.

Able to employ varied teaching strategies and best practices that effectively teaches the curriculum.

Ability to identify individual student needs.

Good communication skills with students, coworkers, administration and parents.

Ability to collaborate with other teachers and school staff.

Demonstrate a commitment to the teaching profession by utilizing resources for professional development therefore, improving the education that is provided.
