Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Seattle City Light is looking for 10 long-term temporary Electrical Helpers to assist our Technical Metering team. The Electrical Helpers will assist with removing old meters and installing new meters, assisting with disconnects and reconnects, interacting with customers and assisting in the shop or test lab as needed. These positions will report to a Meter Electrician Crew Chief.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with warehouse to order needed meters.
  • Remove old meters and install new AMI meters
  • Taking pictures and documenting progress
  • Locates, assembles and sets up equipment, supplies and tools for project activities.
  • Delivers equipment and personnel to work sites.
  • Watches for hazardous conditions and unsafe procedures and alerts crew.
  • Sets up traffic barriers and directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic around work sites.
  • Cleans up work sites, trucks and storage areas and prepares them for the next project.
  • Maintains supplies inventories.
  • Assists with routine maintenance of equipment and tools, including replacing slip ring brushes, cleaning control panels and machinery housings, and replacing and repairing power cords.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
Ability to follow oral and written instructions, ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, ability to work in a team environment, mechanical aptitude (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Works around energized high voltage equipment, at heights, and in heavy traffic.
  • Works outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Requires frequent lifting of objects that weigh more than 50 pounds.
License, Certification and Other Requirements
  • Current Washington State driver's license.

Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory.
  • Ability to learn and understand specific protocols, good customer service, able to follow directions and give feedback.
  • Able to use safety equipment and PPE.
  • Comfortable working with technology such as cell phones, laptops, desktop computers, and I-pads.
  • Understanding basic electrical equipment or able to be taught to use them.
