• POSITION SUMMARY
  • The Emergency General Surgery (EGS) PI Coordinator will collaborate with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Medical Director to improve the quality of emergency general surgical care. This encompasses all areas and disciplines of the hospital that participate in the management of the EGS patient. The incumbent will develop and facilitate the emergency general surgery performance improvement program including data collection, analysis, and benchmarking of data and quality outcomes and will assist with the identification, validation, and documentation of EGS specific performance improvement variances, complications, and quality filters as recommended by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
• PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Model excellence in nursing practice through the utilization of advanced concepts in the areas of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of perceived, actual, or potential problems.
  • Review emergency general surgery patient charts including daily identification of EGS patients, concurrent and retrospective chart review looking at quality measures and compliance with practice management guidelines.
  • Extract data elements and enter them into a data registry for quality review.
  • Prepare quality reports in coordination with the Senior Registrar and Trauma Program Manager
  • Facilitate and attend monthly multidisciplinary operational and peer review meetings for case reviews, to identify and target areas of opportunity for performance improvement.
  • Initiate secondary reviews with Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Medical Director, tracks quality review process, and loop closure for process improvement.
  • Assess individual patient care and staff development needs through periodic rounds and communication with nursing staff and other health team members.
  • Assist and provide direction to nursing staff with clinical decision making and priority setting.
  • Provide specialized expertise to members of the health care team to solve complex situations involving patients, staff, or systems.
  • Identify the need for improvement and collaborate to fully engage staff in initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes.
  • Integrate research into the clinical environment through the implementation of evidence-based practice
  • Participate in new product evaluation; recommend and evaluate new products designed to improve patient outcomes.
• POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
• • Education
    • Graduate of accredited school of nursing required.
    • BSN required.
    • Master s degree preferred.
  • Licensure/certification
    • Registered Nurse license issued by the State of New Hampshire required.
    • Certified Emergency Nursing (CEN), Critical Care Nursing (CCRN), Trauma Certified RN (TCRN), and/or Certified Operating Room RN (CNOR) preferred.
  • Experience
    • A minimum of five (5) years of acute care nursing experience in ICU/OR/PACU/or Med-Surg setting required.
    • Previous experience at a Level 1 or 2 trauma center preferred.
  • Knowledge
    • Knowledge of all phases of emergency general surgical care to include resuscitation, stabilization, perioperative management, critical care, post-operative management and outpatient follow up.
  • Skills
    • Skill in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Abilities
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with community members, patients, families, hospital staff and management.
    • Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills.
