EMT APPRENTICE

Full Time
Bennington, VT 05201

Job description

Selected applicants will interview late Apr. or mid-May.

No prior training required!

Traditionally, someone interested in becoming an EMT would need to pay out of pocket to attend EMT training then look for a job... If you are looking for work or want to change careers, that kind of money or time off may not be possible.

Apprentices solve this problem for the employee and employer. We hire the right candidates as full-time employees then we train them. There are no normal out-of-pocket costs for the apprentices, plus you are employed with benefits!

The Bennington Rescue EMT apprenticeship is a registered apprenticeship with the Vermont Department of Labor.

WOULD I MAKE A GOOD EMT?

Good candidates have the ability to:

Be genuinely empathetic with others. We work with all populations, you must be appreciative of many perspectives, and provide care without judgement.

Communicate well in spoken language, body language, and written form. There is a lot of communication & documentation in healthcare. The ability to speak, type, and submit accurate, comprehensive documentation is a must.

Calmly handle stressful situations and abrupt sensory stimulus. We experience loud/chaotic environments, flashing lights, strong sometimes foul odors, weather extremes, emotionally disturbing scenes and injuries, etc.

Work 12-hour shifts which include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Sometimes all our time is spent caring for patients or driving.

Learn to safely operate complex equipment. This includes vehicles, medical equipment, and be attentive for alarms and other dangers.

Full time schedule is three 12 hour shifts per week which may be days or nights and includes weekend and holiday requirements.

Any applicants who are not sure if they are ready to be an EMT and may be interested in part-time employment throughout training instead are recommended to review our EMT Internship program. Based on interview results candidates may be offered either an EMT Apprentice or EMT Intern position.

EMT Apprentices work days, nights, and weekends for 12 hour shifts. Education activities during the training phase of the apprenticeship may vary.
The EMT Apprentice works 36-40 hours per week
