Position SummaryEngineer III - Environmental is a subject matter expert/technical expert who applies the principles of engineering to develop environmental solutions to maintain and/or enhance environmental conservation. Must have knowledge in hydrology, soil science, biology, water chemistry and be able to collaborate with other subject matter experts to develop complex environmental solutions. Oversees day-to-day environmental compliance programs by developing strategy, process, and best practices which routinely meet requirements of all regulatory governing bodies. Addresses environmental matters with a long-term vision that progressively supports responsible harvesting of natural resources, best in class land restoration, secondary land use, and ultimately environmental sustainability.
Supervisor Responsibilities Leads, mentors, and coaches a team of environmental technicians and other staff who perform tasks such as monitoring air quality, water sampling, record keeping and reporting, pond level and flow management, and maintenance of environmental equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Participates and is a key stake holder in developing strategy and content of permit applications that are approvable and acceptable to regulatory agencies. • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, interpretations and health and safety programs. • Coordinates with government agencies to participate in, learn of and administer regulatory updates, and serves as a representative of the company. • Determines best ways to meet business goals while protecting the environment. • Developing, implementing, and overseeing environment procedures and programs
o Monitoring – Water wells, Ponds, MPDES, Impoundments, Air quality, Vegetation,
o Reclamation activities – Overburden sampling, topsoil compliance and discing, reclamation, tracking and reporting, bond release and tracking,
o Waste Management – Reporting and tracking hazardous waste, SPCC plan maintenance.
- Project Engineering – Design and construction management of storm water control, drainage, culverts, road construction, and other civil structures. • Provide information and answers to staff, management, and mining operations. • Provide MSHA/State Mine Inspectors an annual MSHA sediment pond report. • Responsible for expenditures on projects and work contracts for reclamation work
