Job description
Must have an English as a Second Language certification.
The English Learner (EL) teacher provides English language development instruction to children who are acquiring English as an additional language, working collaboratively with other instructional personnel. Required activities include planning and delivering lessons, collaborating with classroom teachers and specialists, administering formative and summative assessments, completing documentation required for compliance with state requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Minimum of Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university
2) Valid LA teaching certificate or teh ability to obtain one with appropriate endorsements
3) A demonstrated philosophy that all students can and will learn
4) Excellent attendance record
5) Excellent oral and written communication skills
6) Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Best Instructional Practices
7) Positive interpersonal skills
8) Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performances and/or residency
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Demonstrates knowledge of first and second language acquisition theory.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of second language learning patterns and best practices in English language development.
3. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary in evaluating individual learning styles and needs, which results in planning for an appropriate course of study for individual students.
4. Plans and delivers lessons in English language development.
5. Collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure achievement of ELs across content areas.
6. Administers formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and ensure student achievement.
7. Reflects an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences exhibited by the students and their families.
8. Possesses those characteristics necessary for acting as an advocate for limited English speaking students within the school system.
9. Possesses the skills necessary for serving as a liaison between the school and the home.
10. Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate with classroom teachers, administration and families.
