Katch is an entertainment data analytics startup that provides marketers and content producers with audience insights derived from the Katch Media Genome. Hollywood is in trouble: too many new choices in movies, series, and streaming platforms have consumers frustrated deciding what to watch.

Meanwhile, the very same streaming services are desperately competing for subscribers, with new platforms emerging each week.

The legacy of Hollywood needs a new way of understanding and analyzing content - an empirical, objective way of organizing itself. Enter the Katch Media Genome - an advanced language that captures the unique, personalized reasons of why we like what we like. Designed by Dr. Nolan
Gasser, architect of the original Pandora Music Genome, the genome is the foundation of Katch’s analytics and recommendation technology.

As a Freelance Genomic Analyst (FGA) at Katch, you would help the team at Katch by watching and breaking down films into even the most minute characteristics that may drive appeal to audiences. You would have the opportunity to watch and genomically ‘code’ content for major projects with high-profile clients.

FGAs are independent contractors for Katch who work a flexible schedule and are paid per film or TV episode coded. As an entry-level FGA, you will have the opportunity to watch and analyze, or ‘QA,’ films on a trait level. As you quickly progress in the position you will have opportunities to receive additional training and accreditations as desired in order to unlock new content to code at a more in-depth gene-level, at higher paid rates.

Base rates are as follows:

• Genomic Coding of Half Hour Episode = $25
• Genomic Coding of Hour-Long Episode = $35
• Genomic Coding of Feature Film = $40
• QA of Existing Coding = $10

What You’ll Do

• Watch films and TV episodes in order to analyze to your Katch Media Genome, allowing our skilled data science team to take this information and transform it into profound insights used by major players in the entertainment space

• You will complete a training session and pass a brief accreditation exam to begin, with further and more in-depth training opportunities arising in order to unlock new paid opportunities to analyze content

• You will work on your own schedule to code the amount of content you want at the pace you want. When client deadlines are involved these will be clearly communicated in advance.

Required Skills/Knowledge

• Profound academic awareness of film and television. Ideally, candidates will be working toward their Master’s in a related field.
• A curiosity about why distinct audiences gravitate toward and away from individual films and shows

As an FGA at Katch, we will train you to think about content differently, and ultimately, this will make you a better actor, director, producer, writer, studio executive, etc. Our goal is that by going through this program, you can both, get paid to learn more about film/tv/storytelling, and also, hopefully, fast-track your way into companies we are already working with (AMC Networks, Paramount Global, and many others). The media genome is the future of understanding content. Our hope is that this will be the industry standard by 2025. Might as well be ahead of the curve.
