Frostburg State University seeks applications for a grant-funded, exempt Contingent II, full-time Environmental Specialist 1 Earth Science Trainee. Salary commensurate with experience. The continuation of this position is contingent upon recurring grant funds.

Responsibilities: This position does environmental research/data collection, creates maps using GIS software, prepares PowerPoint presentations, coordinating environmental matters related to DNR contract, and handles office paperwork. Other duties include fieldwork such as GPS, water sampling, and attending meetings.

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the fields of Geography, Physics, Earth Science, Geology, or other discipline in the physical sciences. Knowledge of the elementary techniques of standard research methodology; Ability to prepare and interpret plans, maps, and specifications; Ability to prepare clear, concise, comprehensive, and informative reports on technical matters in both technical and lay terms; Must know how to use ArcGIS/Pro, and the MS Office Suite of programs.

Preferred Qualifications. Knowledgeable in Western Maryland history, environment, mining, geology, and natural resources. Experience creating PowerPoint presentations and presenting in a group setting. Proficient in ArcGIS Pro creating/managing/analyzing spatial data and creating layouts. Experience using Photoshop or similar image editing software.
