Job description

The role of the Event Host is to represent UTEC and the Events Department during after-hours rentals of the building. The Event Host may work alone during small meetings and events, and as part of a team during larger and/or catered events. Tasks may include set up and/or break down, greeting and directing guests, remaining available for any venue-related questions and needs, and opening and closing the building. The work is part time, year-round, and predominantly on weekends and evenings. Hours are as needed and will vary. This position is ideal for someone looking for a supplemental source of income, and that does not require a consistent schedule. The Events Manager and Event Hosts will review available shifts and determine a mutually agreed-upon schedule for each month, with the possibility of added hours if there are last-minute rentals.

During most shifts, there will be long periods of down-time and it would be fine to study or work on personal or professional projects.

  • Work alongside other Event Team members and UTEC program participants on occasional larger (and sometimes catered) events.
  • Greet event attendees and vendors upon arrival and orient them to the building.
  • Be familiar with and enforce venue rules and regulations.
  • Communicate with other staff to report safety concerns, incidents, maintenance needs, and general feedback.
  • Agree to provide outstanding communication and customer service to UTEC, Inc clients, prospective clients and guests.
  • Perform occasional business development duties including site tours and inquiry responses.

Qualifications

  • Customer service experience required. Event or venue specific customer service preferred.
  • Responsible and committed, with demonstrated reliability and promptness.
  • Available to work weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to react to changing needs and demands in a positive way.
  • Articulate, confident, and calm when confronted by uncooperative visitors and when handling emergencies.
  • Ability to engage positively with diverse groups of people in a public setting.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Experience opening and closing a building, or relevant experience, preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull weights of up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to get to/from the downtown Lowell building during occasional early morning or late-night hours, in varying weather.
  • Agree to exposure to different temperatures and humidity.
  • Possible exposure to food allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, shellfish, wheat, eggs, and milk).
