Position Summary:

The Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center Board of Directors is accepting applications for the Executive Director position at EELC. The successful candidate will bring a passion for early childhood education and will be an advocate for quality early childcare and education for all children. This is a full-time position with benefits.

About EELC:

Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center, Inc. was established in 1997, as a not-for-profit childcare center. EELC is the result of the community’s effort and the vision of one special individual, Mrs.

Elizabeth Forsyth. The Center provides year-round, full-day childcare services and early childhood education for more than 200 children, ages 6 weeks through kindergarten. The Center currently has two campus locations in Lynchburg, the main campus on Bedford Ave. and a second location at Humankind. The Mission of Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center is to provide every child with affectionate and personalized care in a safe environment. We focus on providing for the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive developmental needs of children in an age-appropriate manner.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in early childhood/elementary education or leadership (or degree program in progress) preferred. Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, or related field, is required. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive working experience in a leadership role at a childcare center or elementary school is required. Knowledge of state Department of Education licensing standards, NAEYC accreditation and Creative Curriculum, preferred.

Salary & benefits:

Competitive salary starting at $52,000, based on qualifications and experience. Full-time position with benefits.

Start date: Anticipated start date is June 1, 2023.

Job description:

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Maintains regulatory/licensing requirements and program standards, including but not limited

to state licensure, Social Services child care subsidy funding, Mixed Delivery funding, and NAEYC

accreditation

- Upholds a productive and congenial work team through the supervision and coaching of all staff and the ongoing recruitment, hiring, and training of new staff

- Supports and works closely with the Education Coordinator on staff training, classroom observations, and annual performance reviews

- Provides leadership and supervision of activities and materials appropriate for young children’s emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development

- Stays abreast of evidence-based best practice models for early childhood education

- Plans, manages and monitors the program’s finances with the assistance of the Board to insure resources for a high-quality program

- Assists the Board in the preparation of the annual budget

- Maintains center enrollment at targets established by the Board through the budgeting process

- Implements appropriate, fair admission and enrollment practices

- Protects and enhances the health and safety of the children and staff

- Develops first aid and CPR training programs for staff

- Upholds the building, grounds, and equipment in safe, clean condition

- Maintains physical environment which fosters optimal growth and development

- Informs and welcomes parents/guardians as observers and contributors to the program

- Observes and assesses developmental needs of children in the program who are not developing typically

- Represents the program in the community and involves community volunteers in the program, including local colleges and universities

- Attends regular Board of Directors meetings and provides report of curriculum progress, enrollment, building and safety updates, and other information as necessary

- Assists Board in development and fundraising activities for the Center

- Submits local, state, and federal grants

- Serves as an advocate for young children and their families
