Involves the management, long-range planning, organization, coordination, oversight and / or performance of multiple operational activities and services for one or more buildings, including space planning, general maintenance, specialized facility systems and operations, call center triage and tracking of repair services, move planning and coordination, development of procedures, policies and communications related to infrastructure and safety. Department Description

The organization of UCSF Real Estate is focused on the development, planning, delivery and management of physical space for UCSF. Key responsibilities include a unified approach to oversee the active UCSF growth planned on a multi-site campus and to manage the complex metropolitan environments affecting capital assets and projects and efforts to align municipal challenges with maximum effectiveness in support of the UCSF mission.

UCSF Real Estate is an integrated unit that enables the alignment of development, planning, design, construction, and management of facilities and a lease portfolio of 1M square feet across UCSF. UCSF Real Estate provides these services through the following departments: Building Permit Services, Campus Design and Construction, Campus Planning, Real Estate Services, Health Design and Construction, Health Major Capital Projects, Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland Capital Program Management and support through Business Intelligence, and Finance, Administration and Operations.

The combined UCSF Campus and Health organizations include approximately 144 UCSF and 58 contract personnel; operating/recharge budgets of more than $52.2M per year; current year capital project expenditures of $900M; and oversight and responsibility for > $9.7B long-range capital development.

Real Estate Services is a fully integrated high performance private sector focused real estate development organization that aligns real estate strategy, real estate transaction management, property and facilities management and lease administration to support the UCSF mission. We currently have over 2.5M Square feet under management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Advanced knowledge in the areas of building space planning, codes, capacity, security, fire safety, organization and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Advanced skills in working collaboratively and influencing others.
  • Advanced skill to multi-task and effectively prioritize large project work.
  • Must have experience in project management and experience in tenant improvement work.
  • Strong customer service relations and negotiating skills.
  • Must be effective working within a large institutional organization with the ability to negotiate calmly and effectively.
  • Must exercise judgement and analytical abilities.
  • Minimum 5+ years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Architecture or engineering degree preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill regarding specialized research needs in space planning and advanced skill to effectively translate needs to professional architects and engineers.
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural or engineering concepts.
  • Advanced skills to assess processes or services to make improvements and in project management.
  • Knowledge of University administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of organization, University policies and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Knowledge or word processing, spreadsheet and database systems are needed to perform the duties of this position.
  • Must be familiar with all phases of the real estate development process.
