Filler Operator

The Filler Operator is the senior member of the Packaging team reporting to the Packaging Team Leader. A combination of technical knowledge, attention to detail and quality awareness is required to be successful in this position.


Filler Operator Responsibilities

Operating Filler

The Packaging Team Leader is directly accountable for the efficient and effective operation of the can and bottle fillers, including the CIP, start-up and end of runs of the filler and capper/seamer equipment.

Material losses
The Filler Operator is accountable for the prevention of product and direct packaging material losses by operating equipment within optimum parameters and timeous correction of deviations from standard. A thorough knowledge of principles of operation of the equipment is required to be successful in maintain maximum material and product yields.

Product Quality
The Filler Operator is accountable for maintaining optimum product and direct packaging quality at all times. Maintaining GMP standards and continuous monitoring of CIP, filling and capping/seaming parameters are key contributors required to maintain quality standards, as is the ability to take corrective action.

Maintain safe working practices and conditions
The Filler Operator needs to comply with all safety standards and maintain the allocated work area in a safe condition. All potential unsafe conditions or practices must be reported and addressed immediately.

Autonomous maintenance
The Filler Operator needs to carry out basic routine maintenance tasks on the fillers and the capper/crowner. This includes lubrication and inspection. Equipment performance must be monitored at all times and any deviation addressed or reported to ensure consistent and optimum performance of the equipment at all times.

Equipment preparation
The Filler Operator is required to, independently, start the preparation of the Filler an hour prior to line start-up to allow maximum time utilization of the packaging team. The ability to work overtime is critical to this position.

Teamwork
The Filler Operator is a senior member of the Packaging Team and therefore needs to effectively work with all packaging team members.

The Filler Operator will be required to stand in for the Packaging Team Leader when necessary.


Education

  • The Filler Operator must have a minimum of a GED.
  • Experience in maintaining industrial equipment will be an advantage.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 2-years’ experience effectively and efficiently operating equipment in beverage or food packing operations.
