Fire Inspector / Plan Reviewer - Remote
SAFEbuilt is currently seeking a Certified Fire Inspector to perform fire safety inspections and plan reviews of existing commercial and residential buildings for compliance with state and local codes and ordinances pertaining to fire prevention. This position will perform technical plan reviews and inspections all construction projects. You’ll be a member of our highly respected building department team with a full complement of resources to support you and exciting projects to keep you challenged.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform fire safety inspections and plan reviews of residential, commercial, industrial properties and places of assembly to determine compliance with fire prevention codes and ordinances.
  • Provide expertise of NFPA standards.
  • Write citations and/or stop work in progress depending on the nature of the infraction, document actions, and testify in court, if necessary.
  • Perform fire and safety clearance inspections for new business licenses
  • Participate in disaster preparedness programs
  • Review plans for code compliance with applicable fire and building codes including, but not limited to, checking underground fire mains, fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, hazardous materials storage and architectural/engineering details
  • Research and review fire legislation, codes and ordinances, keeping up to date on all code changes
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS:
  • Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology
  • Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code compliant solutions
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment
Qualifications:
  • Two years of responsible experience in a variety of fire prevention
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Training and completion of college level courses in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering Technologies.
License or Certifications:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • ICC Fire Inspector I, NFPA, or ProBoard certifications required.
  • ICC Fire Inspector II exam preferred
  • ICC Building Inspector Certification is a plus
